Vettel keeping tabs on McLaren for 2021 opportunity!

    http://www.gptoday.com/full_story/view/705077/Vettel_keeping_tabs_on_McLaren_for_2021_opportunity/

Sebastian Vettel has allegedly touched base with McLaren regarding a seat with the Woking-based outfit in 2021 according to reports from Spanish media.

Formula 1's silly season appears to start earlier with each passing year, with Spain's Marca jumping on the rumor bandwagon this week, contending that Vettel has supposedly been in contact with McLaren F1 boss Andreas Seidl about a seat with the papaya squad in the future.

The underlying - flimsy - logic behind the gossip is the fact that Vettel and Seidl know each other well, with their relationship going back to 2006, when the former tested for BMW Sauber as a young apprentice while the latter was working at Hinwil.

The pair have apparently remained in contact since, and the prospect of joining a team on the rise that will be powered by Mercedes from 2021 could be enticing to Vettel.

Needless to say, in the event of Vettel's unlikely arrival at Woking, it would entail the departure of either Carlos Sainz or Lando Norris, or another far-fetched scenario.

But wait, there's more! Marca has also heard through its grapevine that Daniel Ricciardo - unsure of Renault's future in F1 - might have also put in a call to McLaren!

While everyone and their dog speculates about Vettel's future, perhaps the most reasonable prediction regarding the Ferrari driver comes from his close friend, former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclstone.

"Recently, I have not seen his willingness to do anything to win," the 89-year-old told Auto Bild.

"I would not bet on Vettel staying beyond 2020. But he’ll make the right decision."

    And so will McLaren...

If you were McLaren and could only keep one of your two current drivers, which would you chose?

    Norris has more potential.
A very good second driver next to Charles in 2021 I would say

Sainz is a very reliable driver, and cheaper than Vettel for sure. I'd swap him without hesitation. Also Vettel would be happier at McLaren, at Ferrari his ass is on fire.

Why should McLaren inherit all the Ferrari failures ?

It would seem to be the only way Vettel will get to drive Mercedes-Benz power.

Agreed, let's do the Vettel for Norris or Sainz swap now and put the rumors to rest once and
    for all.

The only swap I would like to see right now is Ricciardo going to Ferrari, in exchange for Vettel taking his place at Renault !!!

But, that's enough dreaming for one day ...

That's a bit unfair to Alonso. He would have won in the 2018 Ferrari provided to Vettel.

I don't do hypothesis; during the time he was at Ferrari (5 years I believe), Alonso wasn't capable to lift the title.
There is no point to suppose Alonso would have done better after he left !

So Alonso, like Vettel, and even Prost are ex-champs recruited by Ferrari but who, for whatever reason, couldn't deliver the goods.
I liked Prost BTW, but he was unsuited to Ferrari.,

So with Hamilton talking to Ferrari and Vettel looking at McLaren, does this mean Mercedes is pulling the plug in 2021? I see Verstappen staying at Redbull especially Honda looking strong right now

My point is it wasn’t his fault Ferrari didn’t build a worthy car. It was Vettel’s fault when Ferrari did.

In your eyes, a driver should be able to obtain a WDC in a car that is not capable of delivering one? Ferrari built some rear boat anchors during Fern's stay.

Maybe HAAS will hire Seb for a bargain price of $35 million? Or Team Prost can be raised from the dead?

For McLaren it could be good: he's a well known name, it would bring back some "top team status" to them.

Well, honestly, I'm talking BS, but I don't give a **** about what happens to McLaren.

Norris is owned by Mercedes, part of the payment for the engines.

Yet, he is very green, outgunned by Sainz for most of the season. I´d wait a bit more to bet on him.
