In case someone needs one. I thought this sold on eBay awhile back, and I thought Tom Vail got all Dennis’s parts. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1988-ferrari-328-engine-9/
Engine stamping *00993* per ad. My Nov. '78 308 is F106AE *00900* ??? Just out of curiosity, will that fit my 308 ?
I can't remember the details, but not too many years back someone had a crate engine listed for 20k. Considering what I paid to have my engine freshened-up, anything under 15k would be a bargain.
Very interesting. Actually looks like the same pics of one that sold about six months ago. I'm trying to find the old ad to cross reference. Scary thing for me is what the internals are like. Correct me if I'm wrong but if that engine sat without any type of lubrication and the occasional turn isn't it going to be a risky deal?
Risky at $5500????? No. Besides in any event they are not iron cylinders and don't rust to speak of. Worst case basis is you have a big pile of very expensive new parts that may need disassembly for cleaning. Many of those parts are NLA. The fuel distributor alone would be expensive to buy a rebuildable core.
Rebuilt Fuel Distributors that were OEM to the 308/328 line are running $2000+ these days. Glad I collected a couple about 10+ years ago at less than half that.
Done to a high standard it would be more by quite a bit. One more reason I very adamantly advise not buying fixer uppers.
The engine SN restarted for each new engine family of that era (so your US 308-2V engine SN being fairly close to the engine SN of that US 328 engine is meaningless).
