My 599 has a slight tackiness to some of the buttons, specifically the "AUTO", "LC" etc. They are a long way off needing a refurb, but was looking for advice on how I can prolong their non-sticky life? Any tips, or recommendations of something I should be applying to them? Thanks!
I don't think there is anything that will do what you want. Once they get sticky the back stuff gets all over. I would just get them done. I had several things cleaned and redone on my car.
My opinion, which doesn't seem to be widely shared, is that heat is the enemy of that stuff, so I would keep it out of extreme heat as much as possible. Just my experience. Buy a sunshade for the windshield, keep it parked inside, etc.
I'm looking at a 599 at a local dealership. Overall well maintained, gone through Ferrari inspection and eligible for power warranty, but dealer/owner do not seem to be concerned about sticky button mess. It is a complete turn-off for me. Don't want to buy a $140k car with many buttons sticky and not legible. These buttons are not that expensive (between $50 and $300 at Scuderia parts). Why don't owners change them? Are the consoles that difficult to get off?
Ferrari now recommends Hydrocleaner by Lechler. Will it work ? . Can be purchased from Ferrari Parts Dept. Made in Italy. It is not cheap @ 100.00 for 1000ml. I bought some for my 15 458. Will it work living in Fl. I don't know.
Sticky No More fixes the problem permanently. Replacing the buttons just starts the process all over again.
We have replacement AUTO and R buttons in stock, the rubber versions cannot be cleaned, they must be replaced.
Once you start adding up all the parts in that car that goes bad, it is VERY expensive. Thousands of dollars is normal, not a button here and there, much more than that.
i used this on 456 and 612 couple sprays then as needed, let it dry till u dont feel sticky .. https://www.target.com/p/kiwi-suede-38-nubuck-cleaner-aerosol-spray-4-25oz/-/A-13130420
did you just spray it on and let it dry? or did you spray and rub with a cloth? I've been thinking that there must be a spray that will essentially harden without stickiness I wonder if Scotchguard would work....
I have had many customers spray stuff, clear paint, other types of coatings to try and "harden" up the stickiness. The parts will still turn sticky underneath, the coating will start to come off like a black goo and takes two to three times longer to strip. Will cost you WAY more in the long run, just FYI. We normally have to charge extra hours to refinish because of the mess and time it takes.
The best solution is to remove the parts and send them out to a reputable company who is honest, and has a quality/permanent solution to the sticky soft touch coating failure. Do your homework. Having the parts properly refinished is also beneficial if you ever try to sell the car as it adds value and most people in the market or business look for the work to have been done.
The little door to my USB port was sticky. I used Goo Gone over a year ago and it's still fine. I figure if it should get sticky again, I'll just use Goo Gone again.
