yes, just cars. Cars that people sometimes sit on to take selfies. Cars that seem to offend some activist minded individuals. Cars that don’t perform particularly well in bad weather and aren’t very practical. And cars that are very costly to repair. Perhaps you can also convince the general public, as well as insurance and repair shops that they are “just cars”? I don’t advocate bubble wrapping our cars, they should be driven and enjoyed. But I do get that there are some times and places, I’d rather not drive it.
We ended up with 5. We kept saying we were going to split in 15 mins...but we all ended up being there till about 1. The 5th had not yet arrived. Image Unavailable, Please Login sjd
Google map Oarks General Store...in Ozarks...my 458 Spider thousand miles from home, with friends, did about 3500 miles on that trip (south Florida to Big Cedar Lodge...all back roads), great times. Rock chips, cracked windshield, damaged rim from road debris...32K miles and car drives magnificently. Next summer planning south Florida—across south—Midwest—RC 66–New Mexico—Utah—Glacier Nat Pk—Badlands—home...3-4 weeks and many thousands of miles. There will be numerous smaller trips in between. Btw..I may have to fly in and out for family reasons during one part of that trip so will let friend or friend’s wife drive my car...it won’t break. Some additional pix from road trips with friends. Clyde – you are my new HERO!! I’m so glad to read about your interest in doing what these cars are designed for – DRIVING. I’ve posted in the vintage site quite a few times how often I drive my car as well as how much pleasure it gives me. Some background (I hope this isn’t too boring!) It’s a 330 GTC that I purchased from FAF Motorcars – Now Ferrari of Atlanta. It had 40,000 miles when I bought it and now has well over 190,000. On this coming November 8th, I will have owned it for 44 years. I do all my own work. I’ve rebuilt the transaxle and engine. I also painted the car myself. It was originally light metallic blue (boring) and is now Corvette Bright Yellow! The seats are original and in fine condition. For reliability, I've fitted Bosche coils, Hayden fans and a GM alternator. I use it as a daily driver and I have no fear of doing so. I’m very careful where I park it and it is always “clubbed” and alarmed. I’ve taken it camping and to model airplane contests. I’ve even enjoyed entering some car shows. No, I don’t spend hours detailing it. I enter to get a good parking place. I park it and walk away to look at other cars. But, here’s the kicker – It’s the only car ever to win Best in Show TWICE. You can bet your life I’m proud of that. Enjoy a couple of photos and hopefully some more dialogs. Bob Z. ps – here’s a bit of an anecdote: Back in the past, someone sent me this excerpt from a post made some time ago. I have no idea when it was published but I read it with more than a bit of puzzlement. It reads: "These cars are not "meant to be driven" as everyone says. Look at all you have had to do to keep your "meant to be driven" 330 Yale! These cars are not meant to be driven and Ferrari ownership is not "all about driving the cars". Ferrari ownership is about pursuing the car, learning about the car, getting the car up to a level that you want, meeting people, learning about who you like to deal with for repairs, enjoying F-Chat... I guess that it is 30% about "driving the car". Anyone who says "it is all about driving the car" or "these cars were meant to be driven" does not have a clue or does not own a Ferrari!" (end of quote) So, that’s it. By the way, note – I have no idea what “Yale” means!! And carefully read the last sentence. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
When Bill Reardon from the Philadelphia area owned Ferrari 250 GTO #4713, he drove it daily. He actually commuted to work with the car. He owned it from around 1972 to 1979. When Mr Conway bought the car, it was fitted with Midas mufflers, a heater and electric fans. He, of course, removed all that stuff and put it back to when it was owned by Luigi Chinentti and raced by Masten Gregory. When raced by NART, I believe it did quite well. I heard that a Mr Wang owns it now. Others on this site may know more about it. Talk about using one's Ferrari!!!! Bob Z.

"Oh, the clutch is worn down on my F50, no problem, let's remove the whole back half of the car." https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/classic-cars/a29960435/ferrari-f50-clutch-job-pictures/?fbclid=IwAR0AYS21tjHZoLn5RbkQFHSJCZ6e3gXWmzX2nN_dVaxAkYI3gC807C9pvYM
I was driving my truck down the 401 and came upon an old red Mondial spider that had seen better days. It was in fact pretty ratty. The guy driving was Persian and his passenger was a Hottie. Upon my passing him, we traded glances with looks of mutual admiration. My passenger was hotter, (my wife), but I guarantee he had a better night that night lol.... The cars are special and tell stories, make stories and are part of stories... use them and have stories of your own...
