This tool worked like a charm, no cable unraveling problems what so ever. I loosened the window motor (shims fell out, evidently was shimmed to align cable to door pulleys) slipped the tool onto window motor cable spool , then removed nuts and took motor out. The grease was like epoxy as everyone says. Took the gearbox apart, cleaned and re-lubed with white grease and reassembled. Now the window goes up in about 5 seconds vs 5 miles, Yahoo!!!
Hi Bill, it's always great to get such feedback. Thank you. And thanks for mentioning the possibility of slipping the tool onto the spool prior to removal. So far I have only used it to hold the cable on the spool after disassembly and prior to refitting the motor. But using the tool before you remove the motor seems to make the whole task even easier.
