    It lives in Japan today.

Back on the 10th November 1990 it was advertised for sale in Ferrari Market Letter, Volume 15 Number 23, by somebody ("Joe" in Pennsylvania) in USA. See here.

86499: I show the date of theft 22 June 1998 and it appears to have happened in Anagni (Province of Frosinone), Italy.

    Marcel,

The Ferrari ad is dated November 1990 which seems to represent that the car was "ready for delivery" as Factory new in 1990. Since it was actually delivered new in Italy and stolen 8 years later.....I'm not sure how Japan comes into play. It looks like Joe may just have been a broker trying to represent and sell a new car.

i dont think marcel is implying any connection between Joe and the present location and situation of the car.
he simply included that info to complete the historical timeline.

I agree. Marcel is the wizard when it comes to Ferrari history. I'm just trying to understand how he figured out the car was in Japan. Wizard's don't have to explain how they do magic but he definitely got my curiosity going.

HOW I figured out? It's in my database, very simple.
Again, the car IS in Japan right now. Since a long time already.
I have proof (Japanese title) but prefer not to post here.

Generally, lots of stolen Ferraris ended up in Japan.

Also generally: IF the Italian insurance paid the owner after the theft, then the car belongs today to the Italian insurance company. Unless they have since re-sold their rights to somebody else.

    Correct. Not more than that.
And how many "Joe's" are in Pennsylvania anyway?

I have not heard of an insurance company re-selling its claim rights on a vehicle that was stolen.....that is interesting. It seems like a business opportunity. ;)

Also: Not sure if the car was still with the first/original owner at the time of theft 8 years later (June 1998). Maybe the OP can answer that question.

Of course. Back in 1989 (peak of the market) and early 1990 there were literally hundreds of worldwide brokers, dealers, and all sorts of wannabees trying to make a quick buck by offering F40's, even if they had never seen an F40 in person and oftentimes without authorization from the owner anyway.
