Anyone fitted one of these? They are different than stock in as far as the unit screws directly to the oil filter housing rather than onto a separate socket.

Problem is its a 24mm nut and there's no way of getting that size wrench between the case and the overhang of the oil filter base.

Do I need really need to remove the complete oil filter housing? Just received all my gaskets aswell!

Another example, that most parts suppliers just don't care about the details.
Seems that you will have to remove the oil filter housing. A design, for which I actually would deserve getting spanked by my customers.
I would manufacture an adapter, but this requires some machinery.

    Best Regards
    Martin

Thanks Martin - Just irritating as the shipping cost is more than the gasket and could have got one at the same time as the other gaskets!

    A shameless plug:
If you're not worried about originality you could try this: http://tinyurl.com/OPConversion. Yeah, it costs more but you get a set up that is both accurate and can easily be maintained in the future.

Not intending to hijack the thread.

Brian Crall installed the kit (above) in my GT4, and I couldn't be happier. It's nice to see real, usable data displayed on the original Veglia gauge.

I believe he did the same in his 328, and wouldn't have suggested it if he wasn't happy with the design.

Thanks - I probably would have gone for that if I'd not just spent the last two hours cleaning the old gaskets off and also spending over £100 on this sender.

A word of warning for others who might be considering a new sender...use the ones recommended above. I'd hate to have done what I just have with the engine in.

i also didn't want to take the filter housing off and discovered you can remove and tighten the sender with vice grips on the case- its strong enough-pad the jaws with leather if you care about tooth marks. god, luck, jon s

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread as after only approx 300 miles the Superformance sender decided to pack up so anyone thinking of an aftermarket sender of this type, please think again.

Anyway, I took the opportunity to install the electronic conversion kit from Jeff (link above) and what a joy it is to see the needle in the correct position, fluctuating as it should with the revs of the engine. It was a mare to fit as the oil filter housing had to come back off again due to the total incompetent design of the Superformance sender, but the installation of the conversion kit was surprisingly simple.

I can't recommend this kit highly enough, everyone should have one! :)

I still have to do this fix. Mine goes dead after startup idle when I start to give it a rev.

    Afternoon all,
Now that you have already purchased the sender, I would do what Martin says...It's the cheapest and most practical solution.

    Just my opinion,

    John.
