As I am re-assembling the 512TR engine, I have run into a dilemma. There are 3 temperature senders in the coolant system. One is on each aluminum tube under the intake manifold and the 3rd is at the junction where the two tubes meet. All 3 sensors have identical 2 pin electrical connectors (see photos). The connector on the RH side is by itself and goes to the sensor on the RH tube, but the other two connectors exit the wiring harness at almost the same spot, so which one goes to the tube and which one goes to the junction? Does it matter at all? All 3 sensors are only a few inches apart. Any help would be appreciated. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

One is for the gauge on the dash, the middle one. The other two are for each ECU to know the temp of each bank. If you jump the two terminals and turn on the key see if the temp gauge maxes out. Thats the one that goes on the the center sensor. Jumping the terminals will do no harm so dont worry about hurting anything.

Honestly it wouldn't make a difference to how the car runs if they were mixed up but if you want it right the middle one is for the dash gauge.

Thanks. The engine is currently on a stand, but once it's back in I will do as you suggest.

How much difference can there be from 2 sensors 4 inches apart in the same coolant path?

it is not about the difference. it is because each ECU needs a sensor and also the instrument inside needs one

There wont be a difference but since they chose to run two ECU's they had to have two of everything, crazy really.
