Slow? 150MPH+ is still pretty respectable! Yeah. it's not a drag racer but it's not too bad doing that if you care to launch it it appropriately...
I would venture to suggest that a very large percentage of Ferrari owners have never been anywhere near 159 MPH,outside of the Autobahn in Germany, or a track with a very long straight..took a while to get there but she made it.Not bad for a 42 year old, plus an even older pilota.
Many of today's cars that we say are faster than a 3x8 won't get to 159MPH at all...unless you dropped them out of the back of a C-130. Hmm, maybe not even then due to terminal velocity...
Whenever a 308 shows up on Bring a Trailer there is inevitably a comment on it being a slow dog and that a new Toyota Camry will "smoke" it. Well, maybe it will edge it 0 to 60 but not 60 to 120 and guess what, that new Camry will also "smoke" a 35 year old 911 or Corvette. It would "smoke" the Bandits Trans-Am but nobody ever mentions that.
There is no real difference between a 2Vi and 4V below 80 or 90 mph. Minuscule. And no one gets into their 308 and spends the entire experience over 100 so the performance difference is a moot point., especially in 2019 when a Hyundai Tucson will out run both stoplight to stoplight. The QV is a better car and got better here and there each year but it isn't "berserk with power" over an 81 model. But my favorite still and always be those 80-82 cars.
"How many times do you guys keep the throttle planted to 120 - 130 mph? Zero? Once 5 years ago?" When my car lived in NV, quite regularly per the PO and I had it at 145+ (indicate) out there. But, no, generally there's not many opportunities. So from a practical, daily driving point of view, folks would say our Hyundai is "faster" than my 328 though the proper term should be "quicker" since what we are really talking about is acceleration within "typical" speed ranges.
I lose my nerve at about 120 showing. Cops and, really, not many places down here I can stay there long. But out in Nevada...
Once, in 11 years of ownership. My two 328s live 8 (eight) miles from the nearest german Autobahn; so the occasion is at close hand. Tried to push the GTB once, just to see; I lifted at 250 indicated (about 155 miles); the car was still eager for more, but I wasn't. That was ten years ago. I don't see any point at all in straightline speed. That being said, and considering that this GTB has a brisker engine than the GTSs, that car is still no slouch...but considering the speed limits everywhere nowadays, you have to figure out something else than speed to enjoy the car. Rgds
Don’t understand the “slow” comments at all. My 328 will hit 60 in under 6 seconds and keep going until 155-160, but those stat lines are not the appropriate performance measures of these GT cars. The full experience is found in the balance, handling, road grip, feel, smell, sound.... and pin yourself to your seat acceleration in 4th gear at 80 mph with so much life and throttle response in 5th gear at 100 mph.... all in a tiny, tight, light and low to the ground little car that LOVES to be driven. I just finished a 700 mile up-state New York/Berkshires MA weekend college visit trip with my daughter and there is no car that can do that kind of run better than a 308/328.... fun, fast.... absolutely brilliant on curvy country low traffic roads. Slow is the last adjective that comes to mind. Granted, these cars would not be the stars of a modem day Road & Track stats summary page (I used pour over then when I was 15), but once warmed up and running there are very few cars that can safely keep up with a 328 on a 300 mile back country run... And on the second day of the trip.... there is no car I’d rather see waiting for me to do the next 300 mile run.
I hit 149 at one time and wanted to go faster but I see cars up ahead and I had to slowdown. Car felt smooth and stable.
Truth. Pre-ABS 328 front rotors are around $3K the last time I looked. They don't cross-reference to anything, and are no longer in production. I'm actually considering custom brakes next time.
I did it last spring over a 20 mile stretch of Route 66 in my '76, but never since. I prefer twisties...
Image Unavailable, Please Login I made the same change to my former 308. The front end got really light at speed. Much improved after the conversion!
This is true. Fastest I drove my 308 QV Euro was 151mph.. locked in by my gps.. But somewhere around 145ish the front end seemed to lift and definitely did not feel firmly planted.. I lost my nerve to go faster. The deep front spoiler would have made the difference especially with the euro Image Unavailable, Please Login
Send me a PM with the dimensions and I'll check the various catalogs for something close. Would you consider an upgrade to Porsche Cayman front disks as I've fitted them to my 308.
