Dallara is making its very own road car. Only 800 Kg, the engine will be the Ford 2.3-litre Ecoboost four-cylinder turbo with 400 Hp. The car will be manufactured in a very short series, with a maximum of 120 units. Its price would be approximately 70000 euros. Looks great. Minimalist, light, quick and lots of aero. Guessing there's not too much NHTSA stuff here so we'll likely never see it. I am sure it is very fun to drive.
It is just about impossible to make a low production sports car nowadays for under $100,000. Especially if base on a new design. Vuhl: 100,000 plus Elemental: 100,000 plus Lotus 3-Eleven: 100,000 plus BAC Mono:150,000 plus Radical XRC:170,000 plus Now Porsche and Alfa have cars lower in price. Cayman about 55K but really closer to 75 k when you actually buy one. Alfa is similar. And both of these cars are big mfg. So the Dallara is priced as should be expected. It is just impossible to do these type cars for less.
I think Alfa was reported as losing $20k per car on the 4c due to the carbon tub alone. And demand levels on the 4c were pretty anemic and that's with a dealer network. Tougher for someone like Dallara. As I said, bet it is a blast but tough to see how it is viable even at the prices you cite, Brian. Shame we won't see it.
At 100-120k it’d be an absolute steal (it’s a Dallara!). Just watched another video on YouTube () in which the reviewer said it’ll be $255k+. Not cheap but seems like an amazing car...
Actually this car is a BARGAIN. Like the car's looks with the top on. What's interesting is that it is a TRUE barchetta (no doors at all) and also available with a 6 speed manual box. Having a Ford engine must be a big plus. And, you an after market it to your heart's content.
Here is the problem Everyone says they want a sports car but what they really want is a GT. They just don't know the difference today. The Alfa 4c is not perfect but part of that imperfection is trying to make something visceral, raw, and sporty. Saving weight means throwing stuff away that a lot of people want. It means space is limited and getting in and out difficult. These are enough to turn of 99.9% of the car market. But thank heavens the 0.1% have something instead of nothing. The Dallara is similar. 99.9% of car buyers will hate it. The 0.1% will truly appreciate what they are trying to do. Both cars (the Alfa 4c and Dallara) are a very niche market. But it's good to see someone actually make a true sports car for driving old school with modern materials, brakes, engines, and aerodynamics.
Nis1973. Nice video, thanks for posting. Love the quote about making Colin Chapman proud. Can't help but think if "Chunky" were still around, this is what he'd be making today. Bob, agree. Such a cool car.
