Took the plunge on first Ferrari today. Sold GT3, picked up a Scud. Start racking up the miles on Saturday weather permitting.

Anyway, just wanted to get first post out of the way. Look forward to learning from everyone and hopefully getting to meet a few of you. Im in Houston so if there are drives or meet-ups happening would love to participate.

So been thinking about this a lot today. Great weather, got a good amount of driving done this afternoon.
Will break this down as best I can but its still early so reserve right to change my mind:)

General: Porsche, Ferrari, two greatest sports car makers of all time but the approach to creating a car could not be more different. Porsche is better at building cars, everything in the GT3 feels perfectly designed and assembled down to the last detail. Ferrari feels like a company that makes F1 cars decided to turn an F1 car into road car but stopped caring once the powertrain was bolted to the chassis. Not saying that as a negative, the Scud oozes character and personality. Most of the imperfection is charming but as a Porsche die hard for a long time it definitely stands out when you jump into a 10yr old Ferrari.

The Drive: I love GT3s. They sound great. The engines are masterpieces. They go fast. The steering is great. The brakes are great. They have more capability than I have skills. On paper they are perfect. The Scud is 5x more fun to drive. I cant explain it but the F-car is just alive. Its like riding a horse vs. riding a bike.

Driving fast: On paper they are close to one another. Seat of pants the Scud feels a lot faster. Maybe its the noises, maybe it actually is. I don’t care as long as it keeps making those noises. GT3 mechanical grip is off the charts, very impressive but not sure its the best thing for fun factor.

Driving slow: Scud wins. This is an underrated aspect of a good sports car. Easy to be fun to go fast, fun going slow separates good from great.

Other: I will miss shifting gears but the F1 is surprisingly good entertainment. Would still rather have a MT. If the reliability and service experience for the Scud hang together I will be with Ferrari long term. If it becomes a chore I would have no problem going back to Porsche.

excellent analysis, i'm also a die hard porsche guy, that somehow fell into a Ferrari, i have a 360 Modena Gated manual that i love..But of course still always have an Air cooled 911 in the Garage..I've tried my best to not like the Modena so i can just go back to being PORSCHE but i can't lol..

I miss my C4S a lot! Felt a lot safer at very high speed and it had cruise for those very long drives. I catch myself looking for cruise, can't find it so drop a few gears and pin it!
