Joe Madden probably didn't deserve to be let go - he accomplished something no Cubs skipper had achieved in a century - but it's the old story: what have you done for me lately? I don't think he'll be unemployed for long.

You can never blame a first year manager for a w-l record. In my opinion, a teams success is dependent on the work of the G.M. / front office. Put the best manager in Detroit and he will fail. The G.M. builds the team and fills out the talent.

Everybody wants Gerrit Cole. He will receive a multi-year deal valued, at over $220 million.

So did MLB drop the ball or what? Why not air the Brewers/Nationals game on ESPN?

I think it would be smart if crane sat the two of them down and tried to strike a deal to keep them both. Probably can't do that per league rules I assume.

Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale. He started selling furniture out of a tent. A freaking tent. Started it with a few grand. I remember him being on the cover of the WSJ in the early 2000s. Said he was worth $100mil at the time (IIRC). He does a ton for Houston. Great guy. You hear next to zero bad stories about him. He does these crazy promotions all the time. Last world series you could buy ANY furniture and bet on the Astros to get it free. This year it is mattresses only. I would have gone and bought a ton of furniture this year. Unfortunately, the only thing I don't need is a mattress.

Don't forget about his F40 that was in the showroom. Did he sell it?

I had heard that he planned to bet up to $10mm.

I don't know. I know at one time the rumor was he couldn't find the title so he couldn't sell it. But, it isn't that hard to get a new title??

I really don’t want to play the A’s. They seem to have the Astros number.

The Rays are no pushover. The Rays have given the Astros fits during the regular season over the last few seasons. Just last week the Rays decisively took care of the Yankees.

Post-season ball is a different animal. Players who have produced all season may go cold and hit off the interstate - bat less than .100. Others who are career journeymen / role players may get hot and have the ability, to carry a game, on their own back. Some thrive in the big lights and others disappear.

It’s the bottom of the third and the A’s just scored a run. We will see what happens.

    Go ASTROS
