Is it acceptable to fill the trans through the dipstick hole so I don’t have to remove the air box and stuff?

Level plug? Yea I think, is that a plug with a small metal ruler attached to it?

It’s towards back left of transmission, pretty easy to just reach under and unscrew. And I bought one of those Motive power fillers to pump the oil in.

I've had a 77 308 AND now an 83 Mondial qv and no dipstick on transmission on mine.

I just used to use a clear plastic hose into the level plug and then bring the end up into the engine bay and put a plastic funnel in the end of it.
I see the dipstick on the diagram but i sure never saw or used it.

Remember that the gears on the clutch housing are part of the gear box oil if i remember correctly

When you look at these diagrams you can see why i used to fill my 3.2 via a clear plastic hose and a funnel from the engine bay- made a simple job of it.

Well that was a friggin disaster. The elbow pipe on the Motive power filler that goes into the filler hole in transmission came off twice while filling and poured all over my garage floor. That thing is not built very well. Took more time to clean everything up than it would have been to remove the air box. Oh well, fresh fluid in gearbox and happily there was virtually no fuzz on the magnetic drain plug.

Keep it simple, buy a bit of plastic hose and a funnel

I did this on my 1990 T. It was very straightforward to remove the airbox and fill the gearbox from the top, via the gearbox oil filler.

I had previously tried to use the gearbox oil dipstick hole, but it was very slow and messy.

Yea last time I did it that way but was looking for something “simple” like Mike said. Hence the Motive power filler. I guess had the tube not become unattached it would have been good.
