Peter this is not true- if its your POV then fine, but it lacks facts. If you read this article you will see that it was not all the fault of McLaren, by Hondas admission the main problem was in their combustion technology, nothing to do with the chassis, regardless if it was poor.

    https://www.racecar-engineering.com/articles/f1/hondas-f1-troubles-explained/

Much of it was down to the fact that they under estimated the complexity and actually got their design wrong from the outset. The rules didn't help them improve the situation.

After 3 years, Torro rosso (the test bed for Red Bull) got the technology where it needed to be and now reap the reward as do RB racing. A lot of the hard earned data was gleaned from the McLaren era.

Its another discussion why McLaren dumped Honda (or vice versa) but when two organisations lose confidence in each then I guess personalities get in the way of progress. It was the best decision IMHO that they divorced

Ok... the article talks about 2017 only and the redesign of the whole engine...
The question remaining is how much of the two previous years was wasted with a design that seemed to be a dead end. As far as I remember in the two years before the engine design was also partly given by parameters from McLaren. And just as Honda dumped the previous design apparently McLaren did as well. So I would still not entirely blame Honda for that.

And the next question remaims: if this is like you say and Honda is to blame, why is Alonso the devil saying so? After the third year you start to look like a fool if you still try to sugar coat it, I doubt others would have remained silent

How does anyone know they were sick if no one heard a peep from them?

Don’t be so obtuse. We hear it from their people. The difference is that unlike Elton, they’re not complaining about it or making excuses why they don’t want to be on video because “they don’t want their fans seeing them sick”

I have no doubts if Hamilton had won while being sick we would never have heard the end of it and he would have allowed the footage to be aired. That's not coming from a Hamilton hater, either. The guy, like many others in F1, is a diva. That he had such a bad weekend and wants to prevent others from seeing it is ********. The show is fantastic and it add some great drama to it.

How do we know they don't complain about it? Or are we just assuming? In fact why would they even tell their people if they did wan't it to be known?

Their own people are looking after their every need every day, they know when they take a dump, sneeze, have a drink, everything. Don’t play the fool every time, or people will make unfriendly assumptions

Ham also has people looking after his needs, if you google you will find that both Max and Webber publically anounced they were sick, along with other drivers who has been sick. Why is suddenly a bad thing when Lewis did it?

And yet before that you stated why did they keep it quiet. Make your mind up. Eltons problem is because he uses it as an excuse when he loses, or claims divine intervention if he wins.... he’s a total whiny pillock, and trying to ban Netflix showing him I’ll is just so ridiculous... he is a total tool

But anyway, what has all that to do with his driving skill, his pole position record, his 79 GP wins, or this 5 titles so far.
You may not like the guy, but stats don't lie about his success.

Don´t worry... this broken record about "people discrediting Lewis" or "dismissing his achievements" will come up a few more thousand times when having nothing else to add to the conversation.... But only when not busy "discrediting" everybody else, be it Vettel, Alonso, Schumacher or who else is available at the moment

Thats the point, he is stating that no one will remember Lewis mentioning that he was sick at the previuos race, but his accomplishments will be remembered.

So his point makes yours invalid, yet you quote it in support of your rather broad and incorrect statement! Awesome. We all thought you and willy were best mates, obviously being Elton fans has levels too, and you all hate each other as well as us tifosi

Peter, the engine development rules rather dictated the wasted time, but both are to blame really, mainly Honda for getting it spectacularly wrong in the first place and secondly McLaren for producing a very poor chassis. I said at the time Honda would get it right in the end and they have but time was required.

Honda made substantial revisions to the engine and in the energy recovery / turbo department which needed a complete rework on the installation. This required chassis and aero work which McLaren couldn't revamp [or didn't want to] The marriage was dead and the political infighting in McLaren or Alonsos' antics didn't help their cause either.

The progress from 2017 showed major improvement and TR / RB are getting the benefit of a much more refined and powerful engine, their chassis [RB & TR] was infinitely better in the first place and RB were able to incorporate the engine package much better after a learning stint with TR in 2018.

    Best

    Tony
