Posted in the travel thread but also wanted to get some exposure here - would love your collective thoughts!

I may find myself in Switzerland with my fiancee for a week in September. Flying in and out of Zurich. Are there any experts who can advise on where to stay in the country at this time and what the top destinations would be for a couple of young tourists who are looking to experience what this fabulous country has to offer (hikes are good!)? :)

    Thanks,
    Joe

Definitely the Glacier Express! Hotel in Zermatt, cable car to the little Matterhorn. Tram to Gornergrat.
    The area is really spectacular!

There are so many beautiful places to explore in Switzerland.

One cool "day trip" you can do from Zürich is the following:
1 - Start your day early and take a boat from Zürich Bürkliplatz to Thalwil to enjoy your ride through Lake Zürich.
2 - In Thawil take the train to Zug and explore the nice little old city and the Zugersee. Don't forget to try the famous Zuger cherry pie!!
3 - Take a train from Zug to Luzern. Enjoy the city and in the end of the day take a train back to Zürich.

A day trip with a short hike I can recommend is the "panorama trail" at the "Buergenstock" you start at Hotel Villa Honegg and it is about a 1,5hr Hike around the Bürgenstock with an amazing view. you can also either go for a daytrip (1hr by Car from Zurich, 30min from Lucerne) or you stay at the Villa Honegg or the Bürgenstock Resort. ( villa-honegg.ch ) ( buergenstock.ch )
Here you find all necessary informations:

Another Hiking area not to miss is Mount Rigi, called Queen of the Mountains. You can start at Vitznau with the hisoric train and then decide at which station you jump out and start your hiking https://www.rigi.ch/en/Experience-Enjoy/Summer/Hiking

Again you can do that as a day trip from Zurich or you stay at the beautiful Park Hotel Vitznau
