That series was fun and could never happen again, old race drivers pounding out TRUE stock cars . I think benny parsons was smoking cigarettes in one of his heats IN THE CAR IF I remember. the last great era of racing
Well we can put this saga to bed, Keith Helfet just published an article in Jaguar World. and I quote"For Me it is heart warming to see the car as it was originally intended and expertly done" He is reffering to Don Law putting v12's back in donor xj220s with the velocity stacks.....Nice article and a great picture of the v12 from the 1988 concept car at the Nigel Webb museum. gtjoey1314
What was really fun....The cars were worth more than the WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD!. Those races were at mostly second tear tracks which brought in a lot more spectators.... Gee what happened to nascar? It was a great time, hey they never had roll bars either. gtjoey1314
In general more than half those tracks are closed today in Nascar , they were the best. If I recall the races were outside Indy but not the 500 track . it was , at the 5/8th track outside the track at Indy. Look at the wood grandstands. It was like bringing that show to riverhead raceway, not Watkins Glen or Bridgehampton back in the day. All we have left is Riverhead, Raceway park closed , Bridgehampton closed and freeport raceway closed, fun times for a Saturday night. gtjoey1314 And the grand price was 100 grand!, That's what they need for tires today, but to those guys it was a TON of money. Just a great, wacky, event.
There is a good article on Racer.com about this series now and also a podcast about it I haven’t listened to yet. Yes it was Indianapolis Raceway Park.

[QUOTE Also look at the Jaguar XK220. Orders were taken at the height of the bubble, and deliveries began after the pop. Jaguar in some cases actually sued customers to take delivery. Matt[/QUOTE] My wife was in the media barter business at the time...her firm traded a good piece of Jaguar's ad budget for a couple of these...
Look into the fees required to service the car. Talk to a mechanic that has actual time servicing this type of vehicle. Much more expensive than your typical off the shelf 12 cylinder mid-engine exotic and 355. Replacement parts. FYI - You're local Jag dealer can't help you. Fuel cells - you have to disassemble the car every four years to replace them. shop manual. where can you find it. it does not exist. spec'd oil for the transmission. where can you find it. no longer available.
90 grand.......Don Law is all that's left. You have to ship it to England. 3 fuel pumps and the foam destroys everything, injectors and all. My buddy just went through it, also get the tires from him a s well as you need the tire breaker, 1,500 per tire. 20 years later they finally make replacements. Good luck! GTJOEY1314
The service is not as bad as people make it out to be , fuel cell is every 6 years , can push it a little longer if need be . Jaguar heritage is starting to stock a lot of parts for the XJ220 and services them too . Don Law is a total jerk , a disgrace to the brand and his work is average at best .
Sorry for the dig, but can you expand more on Don Law? What are the problems with them and their service? Any story?
