A car worthy of it's own thread I reckon!

Continued on a bit from @willcrook 's message in the F40 value thread....£80k for the 720bhp package. Under 1000kg by some measure. What a car!

This is as close as a modern interpretation of the F40 we'll get, I'd say.
Go for the classic big lump V8 that fits without challenges? Or another option? What do you think.
I reckon the F40 esque experience can be further enhanced by fitting a small V8 and attach some turbos to it. A complete 360 engine can be had from around 10K, but would easily spend that again and more turbo'ing it and preparing it for abuse...and won't be as fast as one with a simple big V8 in there I'd say.

But does come close to that F40 experience ;)

Didn't see too many interior shots if someone was going to consider driving this car on the road. Most interior shots are from track-only users. Any other source?

    Great looking car!

Best described as ''spartan''! Loads (in UK at least) use it on the road...I wouldn't expect it to be rivaling Rolls Royce any time soon though ;).

Look for Ultima GTR interior shots as I doubt it's changed anything.

    Agree.

I'd be keen to line it with a layer of carbon fibre if honest. All the exposed metal bits.

From memory, the Ultima was used by McLaren during development of the F1 30 years ago. And with 30 years of development it has to be a good vehicle now. And with a small block GM crate engine, pick your horsepower. The engines are not even that expensive for what you get.

put some slicks on it and I could see it being a great track day car, but for the money there are much more user friendly options for a road car.

Can you list a couple of examples? I have never owned a P car and this money is not in the F car territory for what I would like (FF). PM if you don't want to go OT.

basically any high performance road car made by a major manufacturer :p

GT350R (I think you used to have one?), Corvette Z06 or ZR1, any GTxxx Porsche, various Astons, Lamborghinis, etc.

Ultimas are cool but effectively a kit car, crudely built, not great materials or fit and finish. I think they'd be tiresome for anything other than a track day or the commute to cars and coffee

GT350 was great but Recaros too narrow. New ZR1 will be too much and vette cabin is beginning to get cramped. Aston is interesting or a used AMG. I got 8 months to figure it out.

there's no real comparison in terms of outright performance though, more then 720bhp/ton and much cheaper than a gt porsche, aston or lambo and faster on track

the pros are performance, hypercar looks and price
the cons are build quality and usability

the rs will be the most useable out of previous models anyway, having lift and a few creature comforts

Nice thing about these ultima cars, is you can build the car they way you want. Get it home, take it apart and install any interior you like. Set of Volvo type R seats would go a very long way to make it comfortable. Toss in a hotrod a/c set up, and you good to go.

Agreed. Looks too much like a Riley Technologies daytona prototype...not attractive. Wish Ultima put some more styling into the car as it's otherwise very cool.

I like it..a lot actually. It's a race car, not a hairdressers wannabe race car. Three pedals, a loud and obnoxious American V8 sitting behined you, on a true racing chassis..I wonder what is not to like? As a bonus you can drive it on the street.

Here is the car everybody wants ferrari to build, yet folks are complaining about its looks and interior? Ever here an F1 pilot complain about the fit and finish in his race car?

Why would you want to drive a race car on the street? And where on the street can you use 50% of its performance? So whats the point of it as a road car, beyond the pose. Any number of modern road cras will be quicker in real road conditions.

As a track car will it really hold up, or like other componant cars will it always need bits reattached for track use. Ever see a noble run on track consecutive days?
I once saw an ultima show up that the track, it didnt last the morning.

But yeah it could be the ulitmate track car potentialy, yet we dont see them there, which maybe has a reason.

Ultimas are cool. And have been so for a very long time. Would love to build one (or a gt40 replica) with a V6 or V8 (wouldn't even have to be a modern V8, the old LT1 should be enough for me). Think it might be troublesome getting around town though. Or even getting into my driveway.
