According to Deadline Hollywood, the Carroll Shelby bio movie was moved from June, 2019 release to November. Actually it's a misnomer to label it a Shelby bio because by the cast list it seems to be more the Ken Miles story and how he got cheated out of winning three major events in one year (a trifecta of sorts). Here is the Deadline Hollywood story from Feb. 23, 2019:

"20th Century Fox said that it will release James Mangold’s untitled Ford Vs. Ferrari movie on November 15, 2019, putting it squarely into the film awards-season corridor. It had been dated for June 28 and now takes over the mid-month slot previously held by Matthew Vaughn’s next Kingsman movie.
    ......

Mangold’s Ford-Ferrari movie stars Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby Carroll and current Oscar Best Actor nominee Christian Bale as British driver Ken Miles and centers on a team of American engineers and designers dispatched by Ford to build a new race car to defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship."

Perhaps newly-minted Disney employee and Fox Film vice chairman Emma Watts said it best herself: movies like the studio’s “Ford v. Ferrari” are “an endangered species.”

Lucky, then, that Disney inherited the film earlier this month when it acquired 21st Century Fox, and Watts along with it to continue in her role as production president and one of the top creative forces. Watts presented the film to global movie theater owners on Wednesday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The film, a muscular look at the engineer and driver who overcame the odds to build a race car for Ford that challenged Ferrari’s dominance, could be an Oscar contender for Fox and its new parent company, Walt Disney Studios.

Ford v. Ferrari’ has always been a mystery with megawatt talent — Christian Bale and Matt Damon star, James Mangold (“Logan”) directs the true story. The Ford car was designed to win the 1966 Le Mans race in France, a legendarily grueling competition that lasts 24 hours and leaves many an automobile in the junkyard.

Watts called the film an example of what happens “when we dream the impossible, and then simply made it happen.”

Damon plays engineer Carroll Shelby, and Bale portrays the renegade driver Ken Miles. A first-look trailer shown to the exhibitors seemed to check multiple boxes: Mangold offered up sleek and honeycomb-tinted shots, heavy on car porn and punchy dialogue. Bale looks brooding and slick with engine grease. Damon does not go for vanity here as a down-on-his-luck engineer shacking up in an Airstream trailer. Tracy Letts, who plays Ford II, got all the laughs as a bone-dry American entrepreneur desperate to best his auto rival.

The racing sequences are exhilarating, made elegant by the vintage car designs and exciting by how often they fall to pieces, catch fire or simply disintegrate in pursuit of glory.

“In this time of change and new horizons, this is a fitting film to leave you with,” Watts said in closing. The film opens Nov. 15., putting it squarely in awards season."

I still say they're basing it on the wrong book(s) vur that's sour grapes...

‘Ford v. Ferrari’ Sends Christian Bale and Matt Damon on the Race of a Lifetime [CinemaCon 2019]

"Christian Bale and Matt Damon are out to build a Grand Prix-winning car in Ford v. Ferrari, the latest from Logandirector James Mangold. Based on the true story of Ford’s attempt to build a car to beat Ferrari at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France, the biographical drama also stars Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Josh Lucas, Tracy Lettsand Noah Jupe. /Film’s Peter Sciretta and Ben Pearson were on hand at CinemaCon 2019 to watch the first footage from the film and it certainly sounds intense.

The footage begins with a twilight shot of driver Ken Miles (Bale) on what looks like a racetrack, trying to get his son to imagine a perfect race. We quickly learn that engineer Carroll Shelby (Damon) has been recruited by Ford to build a “perfect” car that can beat Ferarri at the the Le Mans World Championship race. Dialogue explains that the Le Mans is about survival, that you’re going to get exhausted and hungry and that they need a “pure racer.” That’s how Miles enters the picture. Together, they will build and race a new car in 90 days.

“You think those guys are going to let you build the care you want, the way you want it?” Miles asks. Cue lots of cool shots of polo shirts and sunglasses. Shots of cars being worked on and cars going fast, with the footage giving the viewer a real sense of speed. We see them build the fastest car ever…but it can’t corner or stay on the ground. Shots of the big race. Explosions. Bale and Damon appear to share a crackling chemistry: “Do you think we can beat Ferrari?” “We can try.”

The footage ends with Henry Ford II (Letts) going for a test ride, but he’s terrified and breaks down crying when they stop the car.

Overall, Ford v. Ferrari looks like a different kind of racing movie, one interested in conveying a true sense of speed and the seemingly impossibly engineering that goes into building a proper racecar. Consider us all-in on this one.

Here’s the synopsis that accompanied the film’s original announcement:

Based on a true story, the film follows an eccentric, determined team of American engineers and designers, led by automotive visionary Carroll Shelby and his British driver, Ken Miles, who are dispatched by Henry Ford II with the mission of building from scratch an entirely new automobile with the potential to finally defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship."

Here is, found on the net, what could be the movie poster. I find it underwhelming , but maybe this is only the poster for the preview (who knows where that is, or how to get a ticket?) and later for the film itself they will fill up that white space with something....

Here we go again with the inaccuracies. He was contracted to run and sort out a almost perfect car built by FORD in England and near Detroit. They also did the same for Holman and Moody. If the Shelby cars had failed the Holman and Moody car would have won in 1966. And 90 days?? Where does Hollywood come up with this stuff?

Worried about CGI. It decimated RUSH imho. They have Alex playing Dan in the film, nice touch. Wish Adolfo Celi was still with us, he WAS Enzo.

I posted this in another thread but I'll post it here as well:

While it looks like a good "movie", I couldn't help but get the vibe that it'll just be a 2 hour Ford commercial; I'm biased to the Ferrari brand yes but I still appreciate a subjective, quality movie. The history between the two brands is legendary, no question, but the trailer was one-sided with the Ford story. I know I'm early in my opinions but where's the Ferrari side of it?

We've got a while to speculate and offer up opinions, but initially, I'm not interested in a Ford GT40 love fest for 2 hours.

The title does imply there should be two sides to the story and both should be dramatized/re-enacted kinda like Hunt vs. Lauda in Rush. However, it will be a Ford commercial as you say as the trailer shows nothing at all Ferrari related other than portrayed as the bad guys by word of mouth with wrecked cars as the visuals. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm with you on it. At a minimum I'll look forward to the audio in the theater. Maybe it should have been titled "GT40."

Good points. Also, you're absolutely right in that the audio alone might be worth the price of admission!

The rest of us will have to wait until it hits theaters.

Ford v Ferrari, also known as Le Mans ’66 in some regions, isn’t hitting theaters until November 15 even though we want the movie now. However, those attending this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans will get an exclusive first look at the movie thanks to a 10-minute clip that will air Friday, June 14, before the race begins.

The movie will screen at 7:15 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Pathe theatre in the city center with a second screening at the CGR Saint Saturnin in the suburbs of Le Mans. Free entry coupons will be available at both locations beginning Monday, June 10.

Ford v Ferrari is based on the true story of how Ford wanted not only to challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but win, too. The movie follows Ford as it approached Carroll Shelby (played by Matt Damon) to make it all happen, and chronicles the rapid development of the famous Ford GT40 race car. While we already know the outcome of the race – Ford claims a 1-2-3 victory – seeing the lead-up to the race and how the racing team overcame tremendous obstacles get its Hollywood adaptation with Damon and Christian Bale on the big screen is exciting.

While the movie is set at the famous Le Mans race track, the movie wasn’t filmed there. Instead, the crew used Agua Dulce Airpark, a private airport in Santa Clarita, California. The track today no longer resembles what it did more than 50 years ago. Instead, the film crew used over 300 archival photos to recreate the Ford and Ferrari pits, three large segments of grandstands, and the international press box.

So, if you’re attending this year’s Le Mans and have a few free hours Friday evening, head to the local theater to catch 10 minutes of Ford v Ferrari. You’ll get to see more of it before anyone else. The rest of us will have to wait until November.

It should be entertaining. Hollywood is always loose with the facts. Shelby America took over the Ford LeMans team in 1965 and none of the GT-40s finished including the one driven by Ken Miles........so much for "90 days". 1966 was a different year ......they dialed in the big block and had it producing enough power to lop along at 7,000 rpm for days at a time. Great driving, faster, lighter car, more money and the right leadership can change the game.

Some of the race sequences were also filmed at Roebling Raceway near Savannah. I don't expect much in the way of accuracy in this film, maybe a tinge of entertainment while making note of the mistakes. Like the side vents, incorrect tires and front grills on a race 289 Cobra. Calling Carroll an engineer is a real stretch by the way, the Venice crew was a bunch of kids and young men making fast lightweight cars that went like hell! Ford couldn't have picked a better group to perfect the GT40 into a winning car.

I look forward to the review Bitzman - as has been said, it looks like a 2 hour Ford commercial with very little Ferrari content other than lots of wrecked cars.

But either way - I still look forward to your review and I still plan to see it. No need to worry about spoilers - just like Titanic, we all know how it ends :)

I think Disney will spend what it takes to make it a hit. They don't want to look like they bought a turkey when they bought Fox Even though youngsters no longer seem to want to drive, this might show what it's like to drive a car with cojones...and Disney already makes over 40% of all ticket sales so they might capture a hole new audience who were born after the year 2000. Plus I can imagine a repro of LeMans village at a Disneyland where you can drive a P3 or GT40 around (in a groove on the track) and even stop for a cippa java at a French cafe....
