I am trying to locate the Heater valve on my 85 QV it seems to be stuck on and during Texas summers make driving VERY unpleasant Jeff
Passenger footwell, up toward the right fender. You can remove the stainless steel door step, along with the under door panel cover, then follow the hoses up.
It might be more accurate to say that it is "stuck off". The 61079000 hot water valve needs to be powered to stay closed so, if you've lost +12V power to the system, it will default to the open condition. Unplug it and measure the voltage between the two terminals in the unplugged harness connector when not requesting heat with the key "on" (or engine running) = it should be +12V. If it is +12V, but you still get heat without requesting heat, either the valve is bad or another possibility is that the coolant hoses going to it have been swapped. There is a flow direction arrow on it to show which way the coolant should be flowing, and it will only seal if the coolant flow is in the correct direction. Good hunting!
