Looking to pick up my 512 or tr in the upcoming months now; I know it’s been asked before and I Rmbr ppl saying where they got theirs and prices but search function letting me down.
I likely won’t be able to buy a 94TR and there fore whether it’s the Testarossa or the early 512 the diff is known to be weak and i will certainly swap it before I put too much mile on the next car for peace of mind.
Who and where sells the best ones?

I bought one from Newman just contact him directly. I haven’t installed it yet but will in a couple of months when I do the major. Funny Juan says he’s never seen one done and never heard of any problems. It probably is not necessary unless you abuse the car but I will go ahead with the swap to be sure.

I would agree but the 512 has more power than the tr and therefore since I believe the diff is the same or almost the extra power might hurt.
The issue is that one doesn’t know how the car has been driven before and can’t measure clutch or diff wear really. I think those are the biggest worry; the rest are all electrical gremlins and or livable issues the cars can have;)

I don´t think there is a "best one" on the market. all aftermarket are better than original.
I rebuilt 3 gearboxes running with a modena diff ( from australia ) now. those are complete with all parts inside. and all is fine until now.
just rebuilding a gearbox for my competition also with a modena diff, because I still had 1 in stock. but the next diff I will take from philwozza. this is working a little different.

Another vote for Newman. I bought mine from him for my 92 512TR perhaps 8-10 years ago, and the diff carrier is exceptionally well made, and he is professional and pleasant to deal with. The old internals dropped in perfectly. I think he can be contacted through here, but feel free to PM if you need his email.

I got one from Newman for my Boxer. I was going to just intall it without removing the motor as some have done here, but as I was at a shop which allowed me to work on the car, I pulled the motor, separated the trans and did a whole bunch of things which never get done. The shop mechanic who services a private collection of rare race cars and who set it up for me said he was amazed with the quality of the diff carrier and how it was machined. Everything went in smoothly.

Probably best to do it during a major, then it's probably not more that 6 hrs additional. Change the bearings & races, orings on the side covers and set the lash. You will love the peace of mind, if you are planning on driving the car and putting some serious miles on it.

My original diff was perfect, and I have offered it for sale to anyone who wants to keep their car original ;-).

Yup. Figure $7k basic major, $3+2.5+.5-1k (diff/labor/parts), + another $2-5k if car needs it or you want it. Doing it all at once is a lot of money if sent out. Thats why I waited and hopefully will do it on my own next major.

Hi people, reading this here again …. !!

We did write a long thread about the dreaded diffs of ZF, used in the 365-TR and 512TR/M diffs …. and also 512M diffs fail ….

    Did you not read that …. ? What a shame …. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/512tr-gearbox-problem.343161/

Reason of diffs failing …. -> not IF but WHEN yours will blow …. is described here ….

Do read all our info !

And ask Romano all about all of this, he is the TR/512TR Guru here now imo :)

The Forza Components Diff is temporarily not being deliverred because Phil is in Singapore for his job, his small internet shop is also stopped.

But that sure was (one of) the best diff's ….

I´m not a guru here, ( thx mel ;) ) but I know those gearboxes a little and have own bad and good experiences and of course try to help those who have problems.

also here in this great forum there are a few more gearbox specialists.

as I know he will make again when he is back from singapore - if he will come back? ;)

Yes, he will. In individual cases he still may be able to offer one of his diffs for (€3300) …

Ask me to contact him about a ne Forza Components diff in that case via mail: [email protected] :)
