Maybe this is a better picture? I have no idea what number you are reading but it isn't a part number. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The only way to check this is measuring length of that 2 housings. Image Unavailable, Please Login There is still that grey middle piece between.Has Tr also that grey middle piece or goes directly to the housing ?Or a piece that is not that deep?As I can see the TR picture there is no middle piece so that explaines the differences of the upper lenses. Guido
Sorry Mark we hyjacked youre thread.I just wanted to be shure housings are the same and because Brian has a 328 and TR it should be possible to find out... Once this is cleared, I hope you are going to think about also making for TR and mondial...there are plenty of owners waiting for those glas lenses.I pitty I have a full time job making new fuseboards for our cars, otherwise I shure would going that direction. Guido
So Bruno you are right. I double check and it's appear that the previous owner of my car changed the right lense ( only the lense !?) . That probably why it's a 41770 instead of 41730. I take pictures, so you can see difference between Euro and US lense even until today I never notice the difference ( no more the approval inspection ! ) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The difference has to do with the vertical lines engraved in the glass, and the way they reflect the light. To me, it is really academic as I never use these fog lights anyway, which are only used for the "flash to pass", and I don't even know how this works. But in the future, we might need those if it becomes mandatory to drive with lights on: it would be a better alternative as driving with the headlight pods up... (as said above, checked yesterday: both of my cars have 41729L / 41730R) Rgds
That could be one of my replacements from my first batch - especially if it is US version and PO changed only the glass .... Who was the previous owner...? Mark
No dog in this hunt, but I wanted to say that I bought a set during the first run, and they are excellent items. For those wondering, Mark does good work and you should buy these if they happen.
Hey thanks for the endorsement Tillman! Appreciated. Bad news is I'm having trouble sourcing a suitable supplier to make another batch of these pieces. The original firm was an "old school" Taiwan factory that closed down about 1 year ago. Two firms so far have stipulated they must make new molds with a minimum order of 200 pieces. Its going to be hard to meet the quantity I think and I'm reluctant to finance another pair of molds in order to do so. I'll try to figure if new molds could be made so they could be simply copied and adjusted to fit the Mondial as there seems to be considerable interest from that group and this would spread the cost. At the moment it's not looking good but I'll keep looking and keep you updated. Thanks to all who have shown an interest so far - watch this space! Cheers Mark
The car is located in France since new. I Don't know when the lenses was purchased but the repairman bought parts from an well know french ( Paris ) Ferrari spare part shop. I also thought that lense come from "your" stock So now I need the other side !!!
I have some contacts here is the US that do custom glass work and was I was wondering what was entailed in making these lenses since you already have the molds. They have full glass foundries and seem to be able to make anything. If all you need is some people that can melt glass and are highly skilled I think they would be able to get this done. Let me know if this might work.
My mechanic has suggested that, due to the difficulty in getting these pieces, that I get them covered in what he called "helicopter tape" - heavy duty clear tape, to prevent road damage.
James, That's very tempting but when the option has come up before the stumbling block has always been the weight of the damn things to ship etc. Each one weighs about the same as a small car engine...! Thanks for the thought but I'll keep looking here.. Cheers Mark
How to remove the glas lenses : https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/removal-procedure-for-the-glass-lens-of-a-mondial-t-3-2-front-light.599870 And the mondial plastic housing is 34 cm : Image Unavailable, Please Login So if someone (Brain, that upper lens for TR should be good to measure) can measure the TR housing for us, so we know if those are identical.... Guido
Thanks for the heads up, have secured a couple of parts. FYI also made an enquiry into that very rare elusive interior electrically operated wing mirror switch, they now re manufacture them for an eye watering £295 but at least they are available now, here is the info from them today. May want to put this information into the all important had to get parts file.looks a very equivalent part I'm not about to buy one yet, will dismantle mine again and make good if I can.
