It all started out innocently enough. Watching one of the three channels available at the time. Must have been Magnum PI where I saw my first Ferrari and fell in love. Went extra mad when I saw the Blk/Tan 308 vs Porsche road race in the "Against All Odds" movie. Vowed to get one before I was 25. Many other movies and shows just fueled the passion. Finally got out of grad school so started checking prices in the Ferrari Market Letter in 1992 only to find out that Prices had gone through the roof due to Enzo's death. Crushed, I wrote off my dream as unobtainable. And it was, considering what I was doing at the time.

Tried again a few years later when I was newly married. Wife was doing the budget and added an extra $1000 by mistake. I caught the error and was crushed once again.

Then came kids. Holy crap, they are expensive. Back burner for the Ferrari Dream again.

Was still in a job that was never going to earn me a Ferrari so started brainstorming about what I could do to be happy and be able to own my dream car.

Started a new business and thirteen years later, it finally happened. It's about damn time!

I always wanted a 308 from the first time I saw one in a magazine at age 22, but I knew I'd have to wait a long time to get one. I finally bought a 328 at age 51, and the wait was worth it.

Congrats. What a beautiful car. I'm also a new 328 owner. The first Ferrari I ever drove was also black with tan. Is it an 87.

For about the first three weeks I would look at it every night in the garage still in disbelief that I actually own a Ferrari. 5 months later it's down to every other night.

I think I saw my first 308 around 1978 also in a magazine. It only took me 40 years at age 53.

    Fantastic and beautiful car!!
One thing though.....I’d bet a pretty good chunk the 308 in Against all Odds was Black/Black.
Either way great story and congrats on that beauty.
    I have a black/black 328 but love black/tan as well.
I pretty much love all colors of 308/328

Lucky man; this is a very nice period.
Somehow it reminds me of the famous quote from Georges Clemenceau: "the best moment of love is when you are climbing the stairs" ("le meilleur moment de l'amour, c'est quand on monte l'escalier").
except: it will be nice after, too...

Congratulations. I think we're all similar. I tell everyone it was my dream since I was a teenager. Took me 40 years too and also gaze at it every day.

Congrats and cool story! You are going to love the car and the color. Nero metallic is a really neat color and fairly rare. I have an '86 GTB twin to your car-nero metallic/tan.

Gorgeous Tommy. Is that a Euro? From that angle front spoiler looks like a US.

Maybe I will have to road trip to Birmingham to drive with you.

With the mirrors its difficult to easily spot euro model if the car is black. Mine is a US 84 and had been sold new by FAF in April 84. It belonged to John Apen when I bought it back in 97 and did have the deep front air dam but I swapped it many years ago because I kept dragging it on everything. I think I will put it back on soon though because it does look good with it.

The mirrors are factory euro ones I bought out of Canada about 20 years ago on eBay for, sit down for this, about $250 for the pair.

It also has a Seratoga (sp?) top but that is difficult to see in that picture.

I got a brief history on it from FNA in 01 by letter and found out it was built on 30 Jan 84 (I suppose that was the day it was finished and signed off on) and shipped to FAF on 24 Feb 84. They told me the metallic black color was relatively rare and I seem to remember them telling me only 24 were built that color. I dont know if the meant 24 QV total or 24 for the 84 model year or what, but it was pointed out that metallic black for my car was somewhat unique.

Who knows, but it makes for good conversation.

4re308 here on fchat has an identical car as mine, 84 metallic black/tan with deep front spoiler. Absolute twins and he lives next door in Georgia. I have a picture of he and I with our cars at Road Atlanta. I'll post it if I can put my hands on it.
