    I would say the aesthetic. But there are also elements of other Fords there as well...

    John, I'm glad you were the one who posted that- I've been waiting for you all day! It is as bad as Post #8113 implied.

    Here's a few more views of what will be staying in China.

    I had an instructor in design school that would have labeled that a ‘bad bump job’, meaning a substandard collision repair. I wish he were alive to see it.
    Maybe it’s cause I’m just gettin old.

    My first thought was that the show car looks like it has been broadsided and then clipped on both rear corners. Terrible design choices. They've run out of good ideas and are implementing the bad ones to try to do something original.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

    It has that new Supra style side crease. Maybe Toyota will make that a design cue on all the new Toyota's. Hot!!! Hard to tell this and a Subaru apart from the front. Both ugly as hell.

    I wonder if the Feds mandated side lights back to the front and rear door handles would they stretch the side turn signals and tail lights all the way back :) Poor design and poor execution by Toyota and they probably would.

    Staid = safe

    Here is what one of the prognosticators put out earlier trying to estimate what was under the camo. Remarkably close and perhaps a bit edgier:

    Toyota styling does seem to be going to the sides of the vehicle as evidenced by a future Lexus model next year. The 2021 Lexus RX will be built off the 4th gen 2020 Highlander. Here's that styling speculation right now along with a de-emphasis on the spindle grill (unfortunately, not shown).

    Agree, it's pretty cool.
    I don't see the similarity with these two that you see, though.
