The banner at the top states stopping all service at the end of this month. http://www.dinoregister.com/dr.php Thank you for the readily available information, spreading Dino info and keeping Denny Shue's enthusiasm alive. I still have the old, wide green stripe print out sheets he used to hand out. He always returned phone calls and was a true gentleman.
I'm not sure I understand the translation in the banner, but I think it says all is moving to https://www.f-register.com/
I think F-register is also stopping: https://www.f-register.com/node/3445 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What is the cost of maintaining it open? The register shutting down, such a vast database, would be a terrific loss to Dinolanders and all Dino aficionados. Regards, Alberto
Is there a way to incorporate it into the Dino Forum here at FERRARICHAT? Seems a natural place for it.
It is a database, you could manually capture each record... Were you aware that Matthias Bartz also has a Dino Register ? The Name Matthias will still be associated with the Register!
I should be able write some code to scrape the data from the site, but I'd rather hear what the current operator of the site has planned. Is there a link to Mathias Bartz's registry?
I simply email MB, seems logical for him, especially after compiling all the data to write The Dino Compendium I learned about the MB Registry from a German gentleman, Fritz, at the Dino 50th anniversary in Bologna.
I emailed them and got this reply: thank you for your request. We do not share complete databases in general. Dino Register's database will never be lost, it will just be no longer available publicly. We are always happy to reply on any request about the history data -if available- of a single Serial Number. Data theft? From who? I always thought the Denny Shue data was the property of the community of Dino owners. It looks like someone thinks that's no longer the case and it's theirs to decide what can be done with it.
You may want to check HOW that registry was "obtained", at the time. Unfortunately my good friend Denny Schue, the founder of it all, with whom I worked very closely from 1977 until 2006, was deceived, big time. All very very sad. Denny was the best, a super good friend and very very generous. A certain trickster promised him the moon. Marcel Massini
My guess is that this is a step towards monetization. Although I commented that you could copy each record in the Dino Registre, it was a joke because that would be so tedious, but obviously got a reaction from the property owner, Matthias Urban (last I had heard). I owned a Maserati Bora for 19 years and operated The Bora Register for 12 yrs. It was difficult to get data. Even with a easily submitted web based form backed db, it was difficult to get owners to register. Buyers expect the Register to have everything and it doesn't. General Question: How many of you have submitted Dino sightings to the Register? I'll venture the majority have not. That is how a Register becomes obsolete and The Dino Register has removed the one thing that we came for - Data on Dinos. Unfortunately when you hide information from people you lose traffic I will now stop submitting data to The Dino register and only submit to Marcel, Matthias, and Roush; enthusiasts who show up at Dino events, are motivated by Dino Love and give back to the community Follow the money.... Denny was cool - he had The Dino Love and would gladly send you details about your Dino AND any local Dino owners near you. He fostered the sense of Dino Community
