Oh, so you're looking for the FRONT-engined kind of Viggen instead? ;) :D

They have Volvo engines, though, so they're limited to 112mph now... barely enough to get off the ground.

I was able to drive the Viggen when they first came out, really cool cars, fast with LOTS of FWD torque steer. They are very hard to find nowadays.

Correct, lot's of junked ones, high mileage, trusty northern rust, and convertibles. Hard to find a clean hardtop that hasn't been thrashed.

Mitch. Your keyboard must’ve been ringing!

I just got an email from someone with that link per my Craigslist want ad lol

Looks pretty clean, and a Southern car too which is a plus. I have to go down that way next week...I may have to stop by :)

Had a Viggen convertible, after a 1994 Anniversary 900 Turbo convertible and a Saab 9000 turbo. All great cars. Have Ferraris and a Maserati now. But also thinking of getting a Viggen again. Try saabnet.com in your search. Best Oliver

Is it weird to say I "like" Saab guys? Usually down to earth, really like their cars a lot, the least snobbyist of any of the "car" groups and always super helpful to lend a helping hand. Viggen's are the pinnacle of the brand to me, and growing up my first 2 cars, a 900S and 9000CSE, lent me lots of fun tooling around NH and New England. But I do think I might be crazy lol

Not weird to say at all, Mr. 19633500GT. Might I suggest Saab guys are likely intelligent, well-educated, discerning, reliable, helpful, inquisitive, have their own minds, don't follow popular opinion necessarily, mechanically minded, appreciate durable quality, responsible with a sense of wit and good humour and their own sense of style. Of course, having a degree from Oxford, a well-used leather armchair, loyal Labrador, tweed jackets and a pipe to smoke as they ruminate about what's going on in the world and what wonderful cars Saab and Ferrari are also helps. A little enigmatic but Saab guys are very engaging.

Ooops, have I just described the typical Saab guy stereotype?!!! LOL!

Excellent choice of a car to be searching for, always loved the Viggen model. They are a incredible value now and it's a shame GM dropped them after the reorganization. I had a '95 Saab 900S Turbo, leased new then bought out, and I have been a long-time member at saabnet.com. Great place to look as someone else mentioned. In 2003 I leased a new Saab 9-3 SS Arc model (the redesign) with the 2.0T engine and a 6 speed manual trans. I bought that out at lease end and still have it as my "daily driver". I work from home in IT so the car only has 37,000 trouble-free miles on it. Back in '05 I loaded a BSR PPC Stage 1 engine tune and that really gave a considerable kick to the hp and torque, with no loss in reliability.

Out of curiosity, what would you think it is worth, given the mileage? I have an eye on the 200 red Viggen convertible with 116k miles - thoughts on price for it? Is it cheap enough to be worth getting it into excellent shape? http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/class/9-3convertibles.html

I'd expect to pay $10K for a 50K mile example, and walk back $750 or so for every 10K miles (so 89K miles to me is a $7-8K car). That red convertible looks well kept, but to me, once things get over 100K miles, it doesn't maintain that "collector" feel (not that I've ever really been into that, but wear and tear to go along with 116K miles, especially on these cars, can start adding up quickly, though post-Swedish '99 Saabs aren't too crazy with GM parts). That's just me though. I'd probably pay $5.5k for the red one, but red is a no-go, even if/when I buy another Ferrari.
