What is the serial number of the 4.2 L Ferrari which crashed in the 1957 Mille killing the driver Alfonso, Marquis of Portago, his co-driver/navigator Edmund Nelson, and thirteen spectators, at the village of Guidizzolo. This, of course, is the crash that caused the Mille to be banned.

I am curious to find out what happed to this car after the tragedy.....

I think it was 0676, and the chassis was destroyed. The engine went into the 412MI.

It was 290/315/335S SN# 0646, wich also ran at Sebring finishing 7th overall as car number 12. This car had chrome rings around the driving lights and 2 vents on the sides that were slightly different than the normal 315/335S at its first races during 1957(due to its upgrade from an earlier type 290S?). The chrome rings around the driving lights were taken off for the Mille Miglia.

What a tragic accident. I find it incredible that such a race could be held on public roads. Those race drivers of the early years sure were some brave sob's.....

Here is a rather nice model of the car done by Minidelta of Belgium in 1/8th scale.
You can see more photos of this model at www.minidelta.be
The master was made by Patrice de Conto, maybe the best model builder in the world!

As you can see, they painted the chrome driving light trim red and modified the side vents
after Sebring(from 2 split side vents to one normal 315/335 style vent).

I am not involved with this company, but thought you might like the photos. They are special order handbuilts made in Europe.

The overall looks of this 335S version model is fine however,as can be easily seen on the MM period front pics, the perimetral design of the "mouth" is roughly oval, thus far from the roughly poligonal of the real one; the shape of air entrances for carburettors an oil are diverse, the positions of the "5" and the "1" are inaccurate and the driver inside aero vent is lower than of the real one.
