My 430 is in for its MOT (annual certificate of roadworthiness). No issues, but they suggested this: We noted that the gear selection operation is not a smooth as it should be , this can be improved by replacing the bushes and seals £548.00+ Vat It's a gated car. I hadn't noticed anything, but I'm no pro. Is it worth doing, or £650 down the drain? Suspension bushes, I would do, because that would sharpen up handling, but if it's a case of making the gate a bit smoother, not sure if it's worth it
if it were me and the car drives ok I would wait until next time and see if it gets mentioned again...not really sure what they are talking about..but that is what I would do
There is a plastic piece which is a known failure point, it always breaks and has actually been re-engineered by Hills Engineering so if it where me I wouldn't replace it with the chocolate factory version which will indeed just fail again, I would get the hills one and do it once and for all! If you need more info let me know
Aldos (Voicey) from AV Engineering has written about it here... https://aldousvoice.com/2012/09/29/ferrari-360-f430-gear-lever-bushing/
Trev, much appreciated. FChat's value shines through again! I will source one from Hill and get them to fit it next time. Thanks!
Both are great suggestions. You may want to replace that bushing with the HE and see how it goes. You can do more later IF needed.
Darius- Replacing that bushing is about an hour job for a pro. Certainly nowhere near what they are quoting. There are other bushings in the linkage and seals where the linkage enters the transaxle, but that bushing under the lever has been the real trouble-maker.
The same bushing is used for 360 and 430 sticks. Really worth changing for the Hill Engineering part. The OEM plastic piece will fail if it hasn’t already. It’s the cause of most shifting difficulties on stick-equipped 360s/430s. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
I changed this lever bottom bushing myself. It takes couple of hours and is easy to do with Voicey's good instructions. Really made a difference! I recommend it to everyone.
Silly me. I bought this part, dug into the shift mechanism and found.................................................. Someone had already replaced with the good hill part. I should have known when i saw the fresh grease in the shift tower. Now I have a virgin unused hill "bushing" Cheers Craig
Is it harder to push the stick into gear....ie lacks precision? or is the stick movement feel like it is stuck in molasses? Just wondering if you guys can elaborate a bit more. Thanks
Is you go for the hill part, check that the dealer will fit a non ferrari part, some can be a bit funny about it. The hill part is the better fix
More like lacks precision, feels like it gets hung up on something and not move smoothly. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
