Yep... time for a 2019 MLB thread! Dodgers finally dump Manny Machado to San Diego of all teams. I think he wants to cruise through his career while sucking up the big Padre checks. https://nypost.com/2019/02/19/yankees-had-other-priorities-than-spending-big-on-manny-machado/
I don't think it'll make the Padres a contender, but at least they probably won't be a doormat either. Now, where will Harper wind up? I'm betting on the Yankees.....
I think you're right, which is why they passed on Manny M. Manny is a great player but he's in it for himself. I don't see him as a team player and that's what the Padres need.
Checkbook out! Let's go Phillies. Already ordered tickets for annual visit to The Friendly Confines: Phils at Cubbies in May. Thanks for starting thread, Bob. Hope you are in LAS over Easter.
I predict: No DH for the National league this year but eventually (unfortunately) it's coming. But there will be a new rule that relief pitchers have to throw so many pitches or face so many batters. Changing pitchers is too time consuming and in effect, often boring and ineffective anyway.
That might be a good idea. I never liked the concept of bringing in a reliever to pitch to one batter. I think the minimum should be three.
Yah I agree. How many times have we seen a pitcher come in , throw ONE PITCH, have the batter get a hit, and then get removed?
I haven't really paid attention to baseball the last few years, with the Cardinals/Matheny fiasco. hopefully that changes. if the Birds somehow manage to sign Harper, I'm all in this season
Hilarious article in NYT the other day about my Phillies and Harper. Upshot was that if he signs with Phils, he will be under intense fan pressure and anything short of MVP year will have fans booing (not that we need a reason). If he DOESN'T sign with Phils, he'll get booed as enemy of the greatest fan base in the entire history of the sports world.
Which is why, if he doesn't sign with the Phillies, he should sign with the American League. I could see the Phanatic beating up on a stuffed Bryce Harper like he used to do with Tommy Lasorda!
Bryce Harper to the Dodgers????? https://www.inquisitr.com/5314766/bryce-harper-yankees-requested-meeting-mlb-insider-rumors/
got my Fenway Opening Day tickets. Now we need the weather to cooperate. I've seen sleet and snow on home openers in the past
Mike Trout Supposedly, just signed a 13 year extension with the Halos. Bad mistake by the Angels to not rebuild. Yeah, he is the best player in MLB. Great player and personality. A Gamer ! They should have moved Trout for a minor league system and two young players. The Angels will remain top heavy for years to come. I am surprised Trout did not want to move to a competitor. He may have an out clause rider, in the contract.
Angels have no clue what is required to win. You can't have a team with five or six great players. It takes (25 players/26 with rule changes) to win the pennant. You can't have three or four gaping holes in the lineup and rotation and win the pennant with a top heavy lineup. In the case of the Angels, the team has several aging stars on the books. He should have been moved (yes it is sad to see them leave) and the team should have been rebuilt.
