Hi everyone I have a question! So my euro 1997 550 was imported into the US in 2000. On the Carfax it says that the car was imported with 30k miles. I have attached the picture of my Carfax to prove this. That means the owner drove the vehicle over 10k miles a year...
Well I was on Bring a Trailer looking at a 550 that is currently for sale and someone posted that possibly the Euro cars did not have the odomoter switched from Km to Miles....
So it had me thinking...was my car imported with 30K Km or miles. The easiest way is to drive and see if the odo matches the distance traveled in miles.

Anyone heard of this? Here is my Carfax at import and the post I’m referring to.

Vedta interessant indeed. I doubt that they only switched over the overlay on the speedometer and other gauges, but probably changes the complete instrument panel binnacle. But then someone also have to take the odometer apart and put in the previous travelled distance in miles so the new one starts with the same distance as what the car had travelled in kilometers.

Drive a distance and check the odo if it matches up. It is the only way to find out... And post the result! Or maybe the «milage» on your odo is actually in kilometers... Then your car have much less milage than what you think!!

Exactly. I’m not too sure and you would think that when they did the conversion it would have been done. I have all of the CA stickers and proof that the conversion was done. I need to get more paperwork on my conversion. Trying to figure out who to call...

Only takes one set of mile markers to find out. Big difference between 3280.8' and 5280'.

If the oso reads in kms., then your car might aswell be overserviced if it has the services done according to the US service book

Erik- Here in the US, most servicing is done on time interval, not mileage.

Mainly because we don't put enough miles on the cars during the time interval. Mores the pity and I stand convicted along with many, many others.

That’s like 4 miles per day Must be like a dream come true for a Maranello. To be exercised every day is luxury.

She never goes anywhere unless I can get the oil temperature up to 160F at least. She is a very happy Maranello and runs like a dream. Gets driven 2-5 times a week.

It is good to hear. The engineers made the cars to be driven, not being tucked away with a collector. The more you drive, the better they get.

No minimum time on mine. As long as everything gets warm, she is happy. She is a real car.
