For those who have encountered a similar issue, with the felt trim at the windows wearing out due to the glass window sliding onto it, over time.

What i did was to get A4 sized felt pieces from most Arts n Craft stores which come with an adhesive built-in on one side. The result is quite satisfactory, albeit not perfect.

Below are images to show the before and after.

Just cut the A4 strip as per desired.

    (After): with and without lighting.

Where i'm from, the 2 sides have to be bought together for a whopping $1,700.
Hope the $10 solution suffices. This makes much more sense to me , considering even if you replace them with a new set, eventually they will be worn out again.
    Cheers!

    Nice work!

I always worry about about my windows shifting over time so I cringe when people slam my doors!

One thing i forgot to add. Because the position of the felt actually serves some functionality, you want to get a felt piece thats as thin as possible. ( Thick enough to cover the wear and eye-sore, but thin enough so that it does not obstruct the window movement too much , thereby straining the window mechanism.)

    Nice trick.
Oh how I hate that felt. Not only that it doesn’t wear gracefully, but felt crumbs everywhere as it ages drives my OCD off the charts.

Gotta make sure the felt goes all the way to the top. I added a strip at the top to prevent water getting in during heavy rain. Also, if any gap between the window and the base trim is not filled, the overall noise insulation is affected as well. I went thru bad weather, and got a couple of rain droplets resting on the interior glass. After the additional strip was added, i used a garden hose, to spray water at the window trim for a good 2 mins, no more water leakage into the cabin-side.

Any reason why this would not work on the spider as well where there is felt on just one side of the window?

Pretty sure it shouldnt be an issue. You would want the piece of felt from the art store to be as thin as possible though, its the same reason as the hardtop, when you have your roof on. That being said, the felt and the double-sided tape quality, will probably be different between what i used and what you're gonna use.

Looks good. The required felt (1-2mm thick, max) is actually available in tape form, which should speed the job.

I didn’t sand mine. Direct apply over. The original felt is really thin to begin with, and once it wears out it’s even thinner. Imo sanding might leave u with more of a mess and create a larger than ideal area for u to cover with the new pseudo felt.
