    Good day Graham,

Interestingly, the color of your car looks pretty close to mine (Blu Tourbillon)... at least in this picture. Do you happen to know the color name of yours? That being said, your paint looks very nice!

    Cheers,

    Sam

Hi Arvid, they are roll up blinds. I was going to remove them but they have created quite an indentation in the panel which would have been difficult for me to repair. Pity someone installed them p****d when they did! :(

Hi Sam, when I bought the car I was told it was Blu Pozzi, however after doing some research in conjunction with David (Ramboy), it turns out to be Blu Scuro. Its a strange one as it can look blue, purple or even blue/black in lower light!

Paint is coming up nice, don't want to go too deep with it but many of the swirls are starting to come out. I might get some of this new ceramic coating stuff to finish off, see what effect that has.

Before and after shots on the boot (trunk??) lid, which someone had actually vandalised trying to prise the badge off during shipping! :( Will continue today.

Can anyone tell me if the lower aluminium trim should be an exposed finish? They had previously been 'stone-chipped' so spent a while cleaning off but not sure if the double line of shiny looks right. Can't find many images showing the lower line in aluminium.

Graham, I have wondered about the same thing. In the original 400GT broschure from 1976 the car is pictured with exposed lower trim. There are many more cars pictured with black list than without - so I honestly don't know what to believe. I kinda like the twin list look so I will probably clean mine up.

Ive noticed in images the earlier ones appear more obvious. Maybe over time, they just get the stone chip treatment rather than simply removing the 5 screws! Think I'll stick with shiny as it does look more period.

Another one for the 'gurus'.....can anyone tell me if my hood (bonnet?) vents should be black or silver? Its a 1979 carbed car if that makes any difference and satin black at present.

Thank you again in anticipation :)

Not sure I should answer as I was already wrong about the contrasting colors of the seats and not a guru at all... :)
What I have read: vents went body color with 400is série II, somewhere around 1982.

If it's a carbed car it should for sure be bare aluminium colored vents. All I know is that it changed somewhere around 1982/83 ( I think :))

Interesting. I wonder why mine have been sprayed black then? Looks a very professional job aswell.

Now do I take the risk in stripping them to find the aluminium poor....huumm

Go for it ! I wouldn't think twice on getting them back to original. Probably nothing wrong with the vents - just been painted to alter the look. Worst case for the aluminium is that it gets a whitish appearance due too oxidation. The challenge could be to get them re-anodized but some also spray them in aluminium silver.

Haha! Yes still here. She's gone into my cosy heated garage for the time being. Ive looked for further things to do, but there really isn't much else I can do until I get her the slot at the body shop. I've just replaced the power steering hose as the original rubber one had a slight weep on it, but that's about all! :(

Im back fettling my 348 again now (another blue Ferrari!!).

Okay, bit of an update! I have a slot at the bodyshop very soon and in anticipation I'm stripping back the only area of body corrosion in order to fabricate new steelwork in the areas, both below the side light pods. Just stripping the paint right back to see the extent of corrosion around the area.

Regarding the black hood grill. If its anything like what they did on the boxer hood grills, Ferrari replacement grills were black. Much easier to make it black than it is to etch, polish the tips and then clear anodize. I don't blame them after restoring a number of boxer hood grills the correct 2 tone silver, its a real drag and very difficult to get right. My series 1 injected car has a silver grill.

Another job which was on my list to clear was the left hand blower motor which was actually missing. Luckily, fairly local to me was a Spal agent so I went along with my right hand fan and just matched up best I could and took a punt on 001-A46-03D. With a very minor modification of the unit, it fits like a dream!
