On my 21st birthday, I went to the liquor store that NEVER sold to me and bought a bottle of Wild Turkey, just because I thought it was the most bad ass bottle to get! :D

Octomore 6.1 I received last Xmas from my wife. If you like Laphroaig, you'll love Octomore, perhaps the peatiest Scotch on the market. Heavy peat, but not bitter or off-putting. It comes out of the bottle at 57%, so I cut it with a little water, which gives it a smoothness the raw dram doesn't have. Tastes of peat, honey, and malt, with a little spice. It has a very long finish, although not unpleasant. Amazingly, it is very balanced & tasty. The 7.1 and 8.1 have some differences, but a similar profile (8.1 has two versions with 8 years in the barrel, and a little less peat).

I don't have a picture to attach but I tried Balvenie Caribbean Cask Scotch recently and loved it. It is aged in used rum barrels and picks up the spice flavoring nicely.

I bought my buddy a bottle of Glenmorangie Scotch Nectar D'Or for his Bday and tried a little bit. I'm not much of a scotch drinker but this was pretty tasty. It's aged in wine barrels and is a bit sweet which is probably why I liked it. I'd say it's a good one for beginners or non hardcore scotch lovers like me.

If you like that one, their Signet & Quinta Ruban are also pretty good, both worth their respective prices. Signet is more expensive, but has a cool chocolate & almond taste (it is great, really) and is ultra-smooth. The Quinta Ruban was aged in port casks, so it has that tone and taste. The QR is pretty inexpensive, has orange on the nose, and spice & a nutty taste. The 18 is pretty good, and worth the price (less than the Signet); toffee & vanilla one the tongue, with a honey note (not too sweet, but that's what I taste)

On my 21st birthday, my dad bought me a bottle of Wild Turkey (among a slew of other adult beverages) because it was what my Grandpa drank. It was my go-to drink in college.

A great friend who owns a steakhouse called and asked if I wanted them.... he knows I love good bourbon

I didn’t realize how much they have gone up. The secondary market is crazy.

I’ve purchased some Pappy on bottlespot, but I’m always nervous about paying $1500 to 2000 for a bottle and hoping they actually send it.

Among my group of friends, Pappy Van Winkle is the hottest bourbon to obtain. A buddy of mine was making old fashions with his 15 yo pappy. I didn’t have the heart to tell him it’s meant to be drank neat. They were great old fashions!!

One of the best old fashions I’ve had was at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. They make a holiday butter pecan old fashion that is perfect!

Personally, I’m a simple Jack Daniels fan. But I do enjoy the bourbon hunt. Image Unavailable, Please Login
