    **** it, I'm in.
Hanoi is a great town, oddly they seem to hate the French but are welcoming to Americans and Brits.
Yes their war museums tell their side of the story, but who's don't?
    The girls are very pretty.
The Metropole is a great old school hotel.
Tilke eventually has to get it right.
    Forza !

    So, to review...

India tried to host an F-1 race and failed.
South Korea tried to host an F-1 race and failed.

What makes them think it will work in Vietnam?

Not putting Vietnam down, in fact am interested to go there some time but is it
    a good fit for F-1?

Other than tourists and ex-pats, who can afford to buy tickets?

Enforcing track limits would be interesting. Perhaps unexploded ordnance and a swamp?

Looks like they have exactly no clue how to design a track these days.

According to F1, for 2016, less than 75% of the country's TV households were able to watch the sport........

That might keep Mad Max under control.:p Perhaps instead of "Sausage Kerbs" the FIA can add some local flavor to controlling track limits Punji Sticks:D

    The track looks really cool.
Failures by who’s perspective? F1 still got its money. They know the game and will court every and any government they think will pay up.

Sounds awesome. Everybody I know who has been loves the place.

But not sure you can really classify that as a street circuit, given the amount of building work required. I just hope it doesn't end up displacing lots of people.

(They really should have tried harder with that video. She did nothing to advance the cause of blonds judging by some of her comments!)

When there are so many current circuits struggling to pay the high fees, yet proven they can host the gp, why on Earth do we need another venue. There are too many races already, and I doubt there are enough people willing to travel to Vietnam to make it worthwhile, the locals won’t be buying tickets obviously.

I’d rather the races were held in first world countries with first world facilities myself. What about driver safety, does anyone know what the standards of medical care could be there? Is it up to scratch if there’s a major incident?

Fanfare for the sake of it I’m afraid, it will last a few years and then cease to exist, like most of these supposed fantastic new venues, what a waste of money

Exactly, Sid! Can Hanoi afford the cost to build the street circuit, the infrastructure to handle the influx of visitors... I don't think so.

One thing for sure ..they would have no problem in recruiting Grid Girls ..if they ever make a come back;)

The guy in charge of Vin Group is the richest bloke in Vietnam ..last estimated at US$ 6.4 Bio..so the entry fee for the event is pretty much chicken feed for him.

Carey now wants Vietnamese F1 driver

    NOVEMBER 8, 2018

The next step for F1 is a Vietnamese driver.

That is the claim of F1 chief executive Chase Carey, after Liberty Media announced that Hanoi will host a street race starting in 2020.

Some think the news is actually an embarrassment for Carey, who had earlier tried but failed to take Miami to the calendar.

Vietnam is instead Liberty's first new race, but Carey insists that Asia is in fact "a cornerstone to our long term growth strategy".

"I think in the past there was a bit of a short term view towards many of the things we did," Carey told AFP news agency.

He doesn't deny that the success of the new Vietnam race could be helped by a local driver being on the grid.

"We'd love to have a Chinese driver, an American driver, a female driver, a Vietnamese driver, all be part of our future," said Carey.

Guys, don't waste your time moaning about the track or the local fans, this is just another gigantic "visit our country" ad. The Vietnamese are happy as long as they appear on TV and Liberty is happy as long as they get paid.
