Yes yes I know these are from two different galaxies, dimensions or whatever else you want to insert! But hey, this is a hobby right... and hobbies don't have to make sense ;-).

Here's the deal. I sold my Huracan a few weeks ago and have been debating what to replace it with. My other cars are a mint 04 996 Turbo X50 cab that I grabbed as a daily collectible (you like that oxy haha), 17 lifted Land Cruiser and a 68 Charger with 505 stroker.

I was thinking about getting a FF to bring a new element of multi-passenger comfort to my flagship (most expensive) exotic toy and adding a clean manual 355 for its beauty, sound, throwback feel and beauty - did I say beauty already, and future classic value. Fiscally, I figure the 355 is at the bottom of the curve and has already begun creeping up. The FF may have a little more to go before bottoming out; but is a ton of car for the $ nonetheless. I can take another couple or take the wife, 3 year old and 3 month on occasion. Both of these would combine for around $230k which is about what I would pay for a late, low mileage 458 Spider. Two special cars for the price of one (which is actually be a step down from Huracan IMHO)!

I have read up on the forum and even spoken with a local owner at length. I understand the 355 can be reliable and is not fragile as some may have the perspective. They are built to be able to run but if service is neglected costs will be high. I get it. I've owned other cars that were supposedly uber expensive to maintain and they were bulletproof. Net net I am ok with $700 annual fluid changes and $7k every 5 years or so for belts plus some ancillary things.

The 355 would replace the Huracan as the uber exotic the house. I know in appearance, definitely rarity and almost in sound (no flame, I had Fabspeed exhaust on Huracan) the 355 carries the exotic flag well. Obviously it is slower than Huracan but I have 600hp in the Charger and almost that with tune on 911 Turbo, plus its nice to enjoy other aspects (shifting, ride, sound and and some intrinsic things) without having to overdrive the speed limits.

    Keep me straight...

Am I crazy for thinking this is a good strategy?

Am I oversimplifying or too romantically painting this picture?

Since we are big kids and love pics here are some of the outgoing Huracan and the rest of the current stable...

It is a 355 Sub Forum, I think we all agree owning one is worth it.

Oh, and I dig the Land Cruiser.

Costs can be considerably reduced if you're handy with a screwdriver and a multimeter... even more if you're handy with a socket set and spanners. Remember that the 355 is at an age where parts may not always be available and that electronics and some mechanical parts may be getting towards the end of their use-by date. A pre-purchase inspection may not reveal all a car's problems, so get as much information as you can on the F355 so you know exactly what the inspector and the owner is not telling you. Insist that someone does a gearbox magplug inspection (I learned the hard way and it cost me over U$20,000 in gearbox repairs). When something like this happens, you can forget about the car becoming an investment. I think most would advise you to forget about it anyway (from an investment point of view, unless perhaps, you find a pristine car with particularly low mileage.. and then not drive it :D ).

Do you have your own hoist? If not, how close are you to your nearest Ferrari specialist (independent or dealer)? The average mechanic will probably even mess up an oil change on the F355.

Wow, $20k in gearbox repairs! That sounds unreal! They are gears. I’m always amazed when I hear stories like this.

Regarding doing my own work, I had not wrenched on my own cars to date and will likely find the best independent here in OC. I may try some simple stuff.

    1) Great cars!!
    2) In my humble view all images of Audi's should be struck from this forum and the posters sent for re-education!!
    3) As to depreciation curves for 355s, the bottom was 4-5 years ago now; at least in the UK!
    4) Buywhat makes you happy! But personally I like your thinking 355 + FF = happy days! Something for all occasions.

The A8 V10 + is just a better dressed Huracan for old guys like me.:D

I just sold my 1998 355 GTS F1 after 20 years of ownership because I can't get into or out of it. I highly recommend a 355 for you.

I see you subscribe to the theory of the perfect stable: Sportscar/exotic, muscle car, daily, jeep or truck.

Beautiful cars! Buy what makes you happy! If you're okay with the maintenance, don't disregard a 348.

355 is a blast. You just need to drive one and see if you like it.

For me, the F355 is absolutely perfect. Such a great sports car.

I also have a Charger, (69). Only has a 426 hemi however so not sure it would hang with the F355 :D

The 355 is WAY down on power relative to the Huracan. The exhaust notes will have similar levels of excitement but the speed delta will be huge. This can be a pro or a con. In the 355 you can keep your foot in the car and not be at felony speeds immediately.

It would be a different experience than your other cars. It will be much more mechanical in feel and with a Tubi (and some sport/high flow cats) has the best exhaust sound. The safety is that at 20 years old, you can buy and sell one without losing much, if anything, if you decide that it's not for you.

That said, a Huracan is in a totally different league and will leave a 355 for dead. I got a Giulia QF as a daily last month and now my 355 feels like a slow, vintage car in comparison - both in power and in handling.

Great minds think alike ;-). Btw I drove an F1 yesterday. I concur with some of the other posts that the car def has a vintage sort of feel. After driving a 600hp Charger, Huracan and 911 Turbo it def felt slow. But at the same time I also did not feel a desire to haul a#*% in it. I just wound it out some to let it sing. Seemed like it took forever to get to redline both cause it’s way up there and of course the obvious.

I found that I liked the single clutch in a way more than a DCT. Not for efficiency/speed but the lunging and off-idle tip-in adds drama like a manual. Plus it’s period correct. I will still prob get a manual!

Quadrifoglio Verde. QV. :) Aka, Quad.

Congrats though. I’ve driven one and they are utterly fantastic cars. I’d find a way to get one if it were a manual. My S4 Avant 6-speed will do for now.

Absolutely nothing! It was a fabulous car. Almost TOO good. Crazy fast, razor sharp and brutal in Corsa mode and quiet and super compliant in Strada. I put 15k miles on it in 3 years. Just ready for a different experience.

What’s the colour on the Hurc? It really sharpens the car up nicely.

No matter how amazing cars are, Lamo's, McLaren's etc a Ferrari is still a Ferrari and has a different mystique. A 355 is special among them, yes its older but it timeless. Lots of guys out here have several cars and the 348/355 seems to always be favorites, even among guests that drive them they all seem to prefer the older ones.

Lambo or 355, easy 355. For the record I did the 08 Gallardo or classic 348/355 Ferrari dance a while back, in the end I went 348 and price was not the issue my 348 was the same as a 355 and a Lambo is just not a ferrari let alone a classic one. Classic Ferrari, so nice, understand the driving experience is more classic.

    Good luck!

The f355 is very special, the Lambo a fast automatic like any automatic gets boring, my friend sold his after few months.

The 355 takes average 6-8 months to sell so finding a bottom simply says they are all negotiable, with the economic uncertainty certainly no bottom set in stone.

The 996T 2nd bear will eventually start to pop out expect $20k for proper Cup steel synchros 1-6. This is a result of improper shim install nothing wrong with the getrag it’s robust can handle 700hp+.

If it was me I’d dump the 996 get a 964 and F355 or find a nice 930.
