There was a time not too long ago NASCAR was backlogged with sponsors. One would pull
    out and be replaced immediately.

What seems incredible is that this Furniture Row guy just pulls the plug which on one hand
is okay since it gives his team the opportunity to look elsewhere but the timing of the
announcement seems odd, there's something more going on there than we're being
    told.

the timing is a sponsor didn't renew, they couldn't find a replacement, and he couldn't commit to spending that $10mm+ out of pocket.

I give him a lot of credit for doing it now and letting employees start looking now vs at the end of the season, particularly since the team is based in Denver and presumably most, if not all, employees will need to relocate to Charlotte, Indy, Atlanta, or South Florida.

Just throwing this out there, but is there any rift between Furniture Row owner/team and
    NASCAR hierarchy?

Brian France's presentation to Martin Truex at the NASCAR awards sure wasn't very
friendly but then again, maybe Brian had some leftover coke he wanted to get to back
    stage.

Give it to Furnture Row, the little team that could, topping the might of Penske, Ganassi,
    et.al. at their own game.

As I always say, good guys end up in sports car racing.

Two major teams (Furniture Row and JGR) relegated to the back row for today's snooze
fest at Indy. Both teams failed multiple inspections but the article fails to reveal what exactly
    these inspections revealed.

Crew chiefs ejected from the track which seems rather trite doesn't it?

Can't say the Furniture Row team's penalty is surprising given the events of this week, imagine
there is some stick between Furniture Row and NASCAR which eventually means finin' &
    suspendin'.

This looked for all intents and purposes (dare I say it?) intentional.

How is it that in almost every race, there are multiple incidents in the final ten laps? The usual excuse
from the booth "They be goin' fur it" doesn't wash because it happens time and time again (especially
when a competing series is happening at the same time).

This NASCAR mentality that they feel they're getting more ratings pull the longer their races last is
utter nonsense. If anything, its a turn-off and when the NASCAR and Indy Car races overlapped
due to NASCAR's insipid mentality that they must stay on the air at all costs is truly mind boggling.

That they stopped the race for what appeared to be an innocuous incident for (what?) half an hour
shows how desperate things have become.

The question must be asked of the drivers and teams, if the word goes out to "go a' crashin'" from the
locked box high above the track broadcasting on a split frequency, do they comply and do it for fear of
being relegated to third tier team status at the next race and have their memorabilia trailers moved to
the furthest reaches of the compound and saddled with more ballast?

PS: And since when do laps behind the pace car not apply towards the lap count? While waiting to see the Indy Car race Sunday, after the red flag, they circulated around behind the pace for for at least two or three laps and the announcers kept saying "Two laps to go" like a mantra. Well, they did those two laps at pace lap speed, the race in real a real racing series (it) was over then.

How are people not calling NASCAR out on this nonsense?

Just watched video highlights from Vegas NASCAR race...

Announcer: "How could there be any debris, there's only five cars out there with flat tires!".

Other announcers" "Hahahaha! Oh wait, we've got an accident out of four!".

Good advice for NASCAR but it will go in one ear and right out the other.

Tracks that state that want a NASCAR date are usually sorry that they did as the heavy cars
tear their tracks up, the hierarchy is usually up to their old nonsense from a locked booth high
above the track and, of course, they want their shoe (whomever that may be on any given
    weekend) to win the race.

    They have absolutely no shame.

So, NASCAR's (new-new) president, Steve Phelps, is speaking out.

In an interview on Racer, he elaborates at length about how healthy the series is,
addresses sponsors leaving, their great passionate fans and how "fantastic" last
weekend's Las Vegas race was is purely NASCAR delusional spin on another
crash fest debacle which delayed the finish by (what?) an hour.

Perhaps Phelps, the former NASCAR COO, has access to the books which, yes,
shows a healthy bottom line (a couple billion dollars in the NASCAR bank account),
but to say that the competition in NASCAR is "the best its ever been", that they want
to be sure that the right sponsors are attracted to the sport, all this, in light of the
departure of the reigning champion's team due to lack of sponsorship, TV ratings and
ticket buying public numbers all trending dramatically down, perhaps Mr. Phelps has
been sampling some of Brian France's Daytonner Beach moonshine.

If ever there needed to be a breakaway series, it's from NASCAR.

The teams must be so fed up with all the nonsense that if NASCAR wasn't the virtual monopoly
that it is, they'd certainly ban together and form a break away series.

Imagine being a team owner in NASCAR (be it Penske, Ganassi, Petty or Visser (Furniture Row) and having to deal with the constant barrage of ever changing rules race to race, bowing to the NASCAR hierarchy at every turn to the point of suffering the humiliation of having every wrecked car go through NASCAR recertification at their Charlotte "technical center" while at the same time, NASCAR's television and attendance numbers continue to plummet to the point where a championship winning team can't find sponsorship and has to shutter its operation.

We hear about Formula One teams bandying the notion of a break away series every now and then
(and they actually did this back in 1980) and it would seem doable. But, in the case of NASCAR,
any break away series would be an un-winable war since the ISC holds most of the tracks where
a break away series would not be welcome.

This is what happens in a monopoly which is exactly what NASCAR has stated time and time
again they want to control over all of racing in the U.S.

How does it look? It would be great to get the aforementioned NASCAR team owners together
over a few drinks and listen to what they really have to say about the state of things, doubt any
of it would be very good.

Yes, NASCAR is still a thing. Not as big of a thing that they were a decade ago because due
to the way they continue to shoot themselves in the foot with an ever increasing list of nonsense,
they're pretty much painted themselves into a corner.

Race day attendance figures and television ratings are down across the board with long time
fans abandoning the series due to the ever changing rules (mainly being "The Chase", "Segment
Racing", "Green-White-Checker Overtime finishes", etc.). At the same time the retirements of popular drivers like Earnhardt, Jr. Jr. Jr., Edwards, etc. whom are opting to pull out at ever earlier ages due to numerous concussions they've suffered over the years.

Instead of sort of resetting the clock (so to say) and returning NASCAR to its former glory
with cars that are relevant to the market place and concentrating on the sport, the decisions
made deep in the fake wood paneled walled offices in Daytonner address their demise by
adding even more gimmickry and nonsense, the "Roval" event at Charlotte this weekend
being a perfect example where many are expecting a crash fest debacle where the highest
tech car on the track (the pace car) will lead the most laps.

Five minutes of watching this NASCAR race at Charlotte and my brain starts to hurt
from all the jibber-jabber announcers. How can anyone sit through an entire 3-4 hours
of that? No wonder their ratings are down.

Whats with the wipers on the windscreens? They mean to tell us that if it starts
raining there, they'll run in the rain with wipers and rain tires? May just be worth
hanging around for with sound on mute.

It was close to Grand Am GT car racing. Most of the fans seemed to enjoy it. NASCAR was reserved in throwing cautions and that made the race far better than a typical race. Guys would spin and stay off the line then rejoin and the track was stayed green. There was quite a bit of passing in the braking zone and off of corners. I probably won’t travel to attemd again but I’d watch it on TV.

I have to tell ya -- as a bad GT video game driver, the visual of the best of NASCAR missing the braking point on the restart and going straight into the barriers made me feel a kinship. We've all had that "ohhhhhhh ****" moment. I'm glad everyone was ok. Overall the Roval seems like a nice addition.

Not meant rhetorically, how the hell do to the best and brightest of racing miss a braking point? I have a lot of respect for NASCAR driving but this made no sense. Was it World Wide Wrestling? No way they all could have missed it.

The pros make everything look easy. I have Project Cars 2 with the Porsche racing DLC which gives the 919 that recently set the record at 5:19. Granted, it's just a video game and the physics and car handling aren't the same...but the closest I have come so far is 6:20....AND I don't have to worry about flying through a bunch of trees at 200 MPH.

I also tried some oval racing and still manage to bang into the same wall at the same spot, and this is just in a video game.
