I just edited the trivia section on the IMDB listing for this show. Had the 308 incorrect. Never did that before. I corrected the statement and submitted it to IMDb. I guess they have to approve it. I have to fix the Robin Masters trivia next. Totally wrong.
as a quick little reference I'm watching Season 3 Episode 1 of Lethal Weapon and even with the action and dumb comedic actors it is great!
One thing for sure, the killed the whole Robin Masters is Higgins thing once and for all. Before he was a rarely seen fat guy who "sounded like Orson Wells" (because he dubbed his voice, lol). Now He was a journalist in Iraq that they knew and saved once. So there goes that fun debate
I think the plot wasn't half bad and unfortunately had a lot of potential in the hands of capable writers. Higgins is gorgeous but cannot act (go watch the scene where she tells Magnum she's been shot). The guys are likable, but the show falls flat on TERRIBLE writing. The banal dialogue and trite back-and-forth. The perfunctory way Magnum simply thanks Higgins for getting shot and commandeering a satellite. If the plot were entirely unchanged, the stunts and CGI were entirely unchanged, and Aaron Sorkin wrote the script, it would have been a great, solid show. I'll give it another week or two, but I suspect the awful scripting is going to kill it fast.
gf on phone: billy it's not gabrella in the pix. crash! billy it's not gabrriella! beside magnum's gf drives a new ferrarri. you are kidding. they destroyed a 308 for the gladiator masses on tv???!!!
Shouda put Pammie in a 308 ,with the erm top down, nice combo . Then again she is knocking on a bit now
The show was about as I expected for a regular TV show, i.e., meh. For those who think it's terrible compared to the original, I think there may be a significant nostalgia factor at play. I went back and watched all the original episodes a couple of years ago as I liked the show as a kid and now own a 308. It wasn't perfect either and some episodes were straight up stupid (especially in the later years). Regardless, I won't be watching this show unless they bring back the 308.
I'm sure that an episode of Magnum and MacGyver team up to help Hawaii 50 solve a crime is already in the works.
The episode was pretty much what I expected. The trailer pretty much showed everything. The over the top stunts were from the director I believe...read somewhere that the director was from some of the Fast and Furious movies. The sounds from the 308 QV were definitely dubbed in. Would love to see Magnum look into the camera with the "dead pan look" like Selleck had done before. Have to watch next weeks episode before making a final decision.
Always wondered why he dumped the top. Thought it was an error by the producers. Now I know why. Thanks
To me the episode was all about throwing out the old and bringing in the new. The 308, the Detroit Tigers hat, all gone. Surprised they didn't crash TC's helicopter for a new Sikorsky. Gonna be a totally new show only with the old names. I thought the writing sucked on the premier. I will hold judgement on the show until I see a few more episodes.
watch the episode and first thing I noticed was the 488 and then suddenly a 458 and back again I think, the new guy look around 5'9 and actually fits in the 308 unlike Tom Seleck and he is my age (40) nice to see the 308 even in this new show, the car just looks so good ! for me the show doesn't look to bad but everything happens so fast, I'll watch a few more just to see where its going, would like to see the 308 again but might not happen at all. cheers
Well, in reality, we can't expect a new TV with it's setting as "today," to reflect the values/interests of folks who are a lot older and have an entirely different set of interests. When Magnum PI came out originally, it was aimed at the same "age group" that the current show is aimed at.
For me the first episode is the only one that count because it featured the 308, the rest of the series don’t matter anymore as there’s no more 308.
