Congratrulations, that's exactly how you buy a Mondial, you buy it on the spot and drive it home. I did that last year with the same model from San Francisco and it was a memorable trip. Well done, and well bought, one owner cars like these are so hard to find.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and don't hesitate to ask questions on this forum, lots of experts indeed.

Image Unavailable, Please Login Update: just got home to Hartford, CT. 3500 miles of alternating extreme heat and torrential rain. The car always performed great. Except the headlights - they went on the blink about 100 miles from home (daylight so no problem). But that’s for another thread. I am simply amazed by the car a hardy mile-eater that’s just overflowing with character.

You bring me great happiness sir!

    Congrats!!!

You'll find fixing the 'quirks' is part of the joy of being the next steward of this car. Not only do I know you will fix the headlights, but you will gain the satisfaction of it! Beautiful photo!

    Cheers to you!

Interesting! I was faced with the same decision back in 2004 when I bought my 328 (also an '86) in Sacramento. I considered driving it back to Georgia, but then decided that driving an 18-year-old Italian sports car, that I was totally unfamiliar with, 2200 miles in February was not a good idea. So I had the car shipped home.

But now I'm preparing to drive it to Watkins Glen and back, which will be its longest trip since I've owned it. My mechanic is replacing the clutch right now and will give the car a once-over, so hopefully my trip in a 32-year-old Ferrari will be as successful as yours!

Good for you Jim, that's what these cars are for. The 3.2 series are solid and reliable and every time I bought one I drove it home, never had any issues.

That's cool. I test drove this car a few months ago. I really liked it but passed on purchase. I'm glad that it found a good home and performed well for you. I flew up from LA and the original owner picked me up in the car and then drove the crap out of it on the way to his home. It was great fun.

This story keeps getting better and better!! Congrats again Mark!! I thought the introduction to your car, x-country drive CA to CT, was a great story. The pre-introduction to your car maybe better!! Btw: I lived in Weston, CT for 5-6 yrs, albeit close to 20 yrs ago.

Yes. At first I was concerned, but he told me he had done the Bondurant driving school...haha I thought the car drove very well. It was my first time driving a gated shifter Ferrari. I was impressed with how easy it was to drive in traffic. It's great he let you keep the HACKER7 plates.

Yes he also told me about the driving school. The car drives easily in traffic, the clutch is not heavy, no problem 1st to 2nd (even when cold), steering lightens up above 10 mph.

I am doing an oil change this week as it has been about 4000 miles. I have Connecticut classic plates on her now (sent the Hacker7 plate back to Gary).
