One of the downfalls of taping/recording your life, especially on YouTube, is that there is a public record of your comments. I like Tyler a lot. Pretty sure he acknowledges the issue of recall not being done on memorex. Will have to go back and confirm, but makes for interesting insurance conundrum if they want to use it against him. I am not telling them anything, but who knows if they care to research.

Hell we all should probably stop posting on public forums, LOL.

I am glad no one was hurt and I am sorry to hear that this happened.
This is just what we all needed the world to see about these cars.

Just super ironic that a public car Nerd trades an NSX and cash for dream Ferrari and gets “Doug Demuro’d” by the car gods. An extreme amount of comedy, sadness, conjecture, commonality and rubber necking by fellow car nerds.

the divider block recall was a precaution recall not a defect recall..

it all happened when an indie shop did an engine out..
there is a coolant hose in the vicinity of the fuel lines at the front of engine..
and a clamp if not in right position will rub the fuel line..and eventually cut it.
where apparently that indie shop was not careful as to the orientation of that clamp..

and voila, the first 355 engine fire associated to this issue and thus a recall to add a divider block..

meaning this was never a defect, if that area was never touched or engine never removed.. or put the clamp in correct orientation.
but Ferrari still issued the recall to prevent this from happening again

it is clear the recall was not done on this car..
therefore can only assume that while things were repaired for the boots on heat exchanger, the initial problem.
things may have been moved around enough, for that clamp to touch/cut through the fuel line..

but still skeptical for the little bit he drove it after, and the bit the dude at vehicle virgins chucked it around.. that the hose would have been cut that quickly..?

    My conjecture:

I'm betting the vehicle virgins guy was doing rev limit stands at a cars and coffee, and the timing belts let go, came out of the covers, through the fire wall, both cutting fuel lines and shorting ECUs. All becasue Dave Rocks didn't come out with the TDC tool fast enough and hoovie didn't time his cams 3 different ways from sunday.

Have been following this thread as I am a Ferrari newbie trying to gather info on purchasing a 1999 F355 Spyder.
Looking at a low mile car which on the surface appears to be reasonably priced.
Lots of reviews indicate they can be a maintenance nightmare
Current owner is reluctant to share detailed service info without a committment to purchase car
    Any suggestions ?
Thanks in Advance - Ferrari WannaB

As with all cars, if certain things aren't maintained/taken care of, they can add up quickly.

Are cars exploding regularly? Are they melting from a passing rain shower daily? no. there are many many cars living mostly trouble free lives, or as trouble free as any 25 year old car can. Any owner wanting to sell will be open and forthcoming with records. do your homework. Carfax check turns up a lot of things nowadays, Pre-purchase inspection, personal inspection.

Learn as much as you can from other threads besides this one.

    Thank you Steve
The CarFax shows pretty well and car has been serviced multiple times for what appear to be general services.
A couple were major services, but does not go into detail of what those major services included.

The last "major" service was in 2013 and cost was $6,600 " perform major service as discussed with client"
    + $1,400 for full service

Expect that it needs belt service, tensioners and the "while you're in there stuff" (plenty of threads on it...). Set aside 10k.

and let's stop hijacking this thread and move to another one.

FYI - Tavarish has purchased the car to put it back together.

I think that he has finally bitten off more than he can chew. There is a huge difference between a Gallardo and a F355. He has zero idea what he's getting into. Hope he got it for free.

That’s interesting, how did he buy it if it’s still on IAAI with ownership showing State Farm Insurance Co.?
How would he get the inside track on buying it and cutting out an auction if State Farm has aready taken the car?
