RIP. Unlike many I didn't love much of what he did with Ferrari but condolences to his family, and bravo for saving Chrysler.
May he Rest in Peace! And yes, thank you what you did for Ferrari. But no thank you what you did to Lancia and Maserati (the latter must "re-animate" Alfa Romeo with dozens of their own engineers instead for producing and establishing a new Maserati product line which is over-due and outdated for -at least- 5 years!). Sorry to say all this - but that`s the truth!
Just learned throught my dealer about the death of Mr. Marchionne and Ferrari requested everyone to keep one minute silence. Mr. Marchionne was sometimes controversial but he kept the companies of the Fiat/Chrysler group under one voice command. Let’s wait and see if there is a substitutor and who is the personality but for the moment my only wish his that he rests in peace.
People had divided opinions on him, "the accountant". He canned Luca, Pininfarina and increased production, thus diluting the brand. In reading about him though it is great to see his accomplishments. He returned Ferrari to compete in F1. As more of a vintage car fan, i really like the current line up of cars. Outside of Ferrari he saved Chrysler and made it more fun, Jeeps are really great now. Maserati and Alfa - I hope they can only get better (great cars, just not huge US presence). What was most sad is that I read he really wanted to wind down and enjoy life. I'm sure he enjoyed life more than most. Forza Sergio
RIP - when i was on assignment in Torino, he and the FIAT Group was my only client and I had monthly meetings with him and the head of each group. I recall back in 2005 that he had endless energy - motivation and guidance. All his direct reports respected his leadership and he continued that enthusiasm until the day he passed. He pushed the limits of what was possible thru his people. Very sad that now is when he wanted to begin to enjoy life.....
