    The 65 degree engine in the Biekens car was part of the Albert Obrist collection of components that was auctioned at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 1997.

    On this day in 2005 Kimi Raikkonen led the German GP from pole in his beautiful & superfast McLaren MP4-20, but retired while leading with hydraulic failure on lap 36. Fernando Alonso (Renault) inherited the win. With better reliability, Kimi would have been champion that year.

    On this day 30 years ago Senna (McLaren) won a damp German GP at Hockenheim from team-mate Prost 2nd & Berger (Ferrari) 3rd. It would be a historic podium finish for Ferrari: the last achieved by the Scuderia during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime, for the great man died 3 weeks later.

    On this day in '66, 40yo Jack Brabham won the Dutch GP by a lap, from pole, in a car bearing his own name, & went on to take his 3rd world title later that year. Great pic of him drifting his Brabham BT19 through a Zandvoort turn, determination etched in every pore of his face.

    July 22 in 2007 Fernando Alonso (McLaren) brilliantly won the Euro GP at Nürburgring, in a wet/dry race which was sometimes EXTREMELY wet, muscling his way past Felipe Massa (Ferrari) for the lead in the closing stages.

    July 22 in '84, following Palmer's crash on lap 12 of the British GP at Brands. Prost's & Lauda's McLarens were so far in front that they had time to stop on the grid & get out of their cars before the rest of the field arrived.

    #8 being Chris Amon who came 2nd after #5 Jackie Stewart driving a Matra-Cosworth.

    9 miles of racing.....love the old track desgns. This 3 to 4 miles is lame.

    A long wide open track and a long race(3.5 hrs). Virtually no safety considerations for competitors or spectators.
