I’ve been on the blue skin since the change and I mostly don’t even notice it now. The red default skin is horrible.

    Otto,
I'm sure the torque of the V-8 along with the grossly inappropriate gearing makes it fun around town but cruising at 5k is going to kill that engine.
I've never been comfortable cruising an American V-8 at much more than three grand, which I'm guessing is around 50 mph in your case. Not very Ferrari-like.
If keeping the Chev a stand alone overdrive unit might be the answer, and probably less $ than set of cogs for the Ferrari diff.

at 5k with a 3.2 ratio final drive you would be doing 120mph at a rough guess, thats not too bad

Hola! Been a long time... Car is still being enjoyed but now mostly as a weekend toy since a recent job these past few months is a 75 mile daily commute. Between long hours at work, the long commute, my young son, the girlfriend - well, life gets in the way and believe this is my first post this year (and the year is almost half over)!!!

Anyhow, at a show in downtown West Palm Beach with other tasteful rides... I still get excited every time I see my car after all these years! Needless to say, I particularly enjoy the view from the rear! Hello Otto. I have a 1980 400i that I hae oenewd for many years. My Michigan dealer is picking it up tomorrow to evaluate it in anticipation of a mechanical freshening and paint/interior restoration. I have the same color combo and love it! I am a seasonal West Palm Beach resident and I would love to see your car in the flesh when I return in the fall. I drive a '15 Cali T in West Palm. Let's compare notes. I will send you a pm.

It can be easily said that I can hardly leave something alone, although I know many others out there just like me... When I got indoctrinated into ownership of 46567, I did it with gusto although not necessarily in the most informed manner. To wit, not knowing that my model year's front hood grill is supposed to be the same color as the car, whereby I instead had Michel paint mine silver. And, there are many other exterior quirks in my car that are not necessarily noticeable to the masses upon a glance. But, it had always bothered me that the cavallino situated in the rear tail light section of the car was the wrong size.

So, here are a couple of pics of the car with the amazing local backdrop, as well as after the 'corrective surgery" which makes me happier now after Michel performed his cosmetic procedure. Hope everyone is out enjoying theirs and can look forward to a long holiday weekend.

    Cheers!

In about 3 years or so of having it roadworthy, I have driven it approximately 8K miles (odo showing 32K miles). In my most recent fill up at 25 gallons, I drove it around town (only) for 325 miles, so it averaged 13mpg.

Within my most place of employment, located 2.5 miles from where I live, and having sold my BMW Alpina e28, the toys have narrowed down to 3, so 46567 gets driven 3-5 times a week on average:)

Hope everyone is enjoying theirs or soon will be in 2019!

    Cheers!

Happy New Year Otto. I have just reread your lengthy thread in its entirety and I enjoyed it just as much as the first time! My car is in the midst of a lengthy restoration by Cauley Ferrari of West Bloomfield. It has been pretty well sorted
    mechanically and is drivable
. However, I still may have to do a suspension rebuild and the exhaust system probably needs to be replaced. My biggest remaining challenges are body repaint and dash leather replacement. I reside in West Palm Beach for 7-8 months of the year and I am thinking about shipping it south to have it completed.

I am impressed by the craftsmanship and ingenuity of your specialist Michel. And he is local! Would you pm me his contact information so that I could determine his interest in restoring yet another 400 to glory? Thank you for your consideration. Please keep the reports coming! Best of good fortune to you.

For those who may not already be familiar with Erwin’s blog about anything and everything 365 GT4 2 + 2/400/412 related, then it’s a weekly must (if not more often)! I cannot simply say enough about the blog and how well it’s written, while covering such an interesting variety of model-specific topics...

I was humbly surprised when I saw this post the other day at his blog/website:

    http://erwin400.blogspot.com/2019/02/autogespot-ferrari-400i-west-palm-beach.html?m=1

The pics were taken probably a couple of months ago after taking the family to church and then grabbing brunch. Someone must have taken the pics while the car sat outside the restaurant, and curious to know how they ended up at Erwin’s inbox!?!

Despite the multiple dozen pictures uploaded into this thread so far and counting, I believe this is the only video ever taken of the car... which, was provided to me by Erwin some time back. Most - if not all of us in this forum, grew up without internet, emails, social media, and up to a certain point, cell phones! Which is why for me, something so simple as this instagram clip is so amazing to me. It was taken here in town when I must have been running errands without me knowing it was filmed, but then ends up in The Netherlands with Erwin, who then forwards it to me back in Palm Beach?!?

It is not the best quality video, but here is the link to it nonetheless:

I cannot believe I did it! I just reread the whole entire post from beginning to end in one fell swoop! What a journey. Otto, I will look for your car whenever I am out and about in the WPB area. Kudos to you for seeing it through and enjoy her at every opportunity.

I cannot really say much more than what my now good friend wrote about his recent visit here:

    http://erwin400.blogspot.com/2019/08/west-palm-beach-ferrari-400i-automatic.html

For those that perhaps still are not familiar with Erwin's blog, it is a weekly + habit for those of us who are interested in knowing more about our cars... Erwin does not have sponsors to fund his blog as he does it on his own. However, Erwin relies on the occasional donations from visitors into order to purchase additional prints/articles/photo's of our cars which he then shares it with everyone for free.

The only other owner/forum member that I know personally, Gary (Part Time), unfortunately could not join us but we still managed to have a nice time in my neighborhood!

So... with the usual wear and tear that comes from regularly exercising 46567, mostly around town, a list of several items cropped up to the point where I needed to take it in to Michel for some TLC. Nothing major, thankfully, but its been there a few weeks.

First up was the constant squeaking noise that had developed over a period of time. Upon further inspection, we found this - likely original from 1985 (or 1983 or whenever my car was manufactured)!

So I went to Eurospares and located them, however, was not necessarily thrilled with having to wait an extended period of time to have them delivered. So, in all actuality, Michel found the correct ones on eBay and much to my surprise, being sold by Summit Racing, which is more likely to sell you a supercharger than bushings for a 1980's Ferrari!

Needless to say, they arrived timely and were promptly fitted into action. Although I have not picked up the car yet, Michel has informed me that it has made a night + day difference with regard to how the car feels decidedly more planted with no noise emanating from the front end. Re-sult!
