I'm a newbie and just brought home a 2003 575M. Problem is I live in MInnesota (where everything is illegal) and to avoid a 6.7 % sales tax I want to register the car as a collectible. In order to do that, the car must be at least 10 years old and limited production of under 500 in that model year. I've read in this forum that there were 167 575's built in 2003, but they are requiring a statement from the manufacturer.

Any ideas on how I might acquire such a statement?

    Thanks for any help!

    Jim

I think an average of just over 400 were built per year. I'm pretty sure the number you are quoting is the amount imported to the US in '03. I could be wrong, of course :)

    Thanks!

Even the 400 number would be good news for me. But how do I prove it to the state?

Contact Ferrari Heritage and ask production numbers via mail. Maybe you’ll get a breakdown on letterhead.

The one in a little town in Pennsylvania, from an ad in Hemmings. GREAT owner and a really smooth transaction. Flew out to Philly and drove it 1700 miles back to Minnesota. Wonderful ride!!

Ferrari North America is probably the only source the state will buy, but you can find official production numbers on NHTSA's website if you want to give that a try. They may buy it since it is an official government site and it shows total MY03 production for the US was way less than 500. Total US production was only 550-600 over 4 years. Here are the production numbers by years from NHTSA:

    575M Production Numbers
Total Production: 2064 of which 246 were Manual (11.9%)
UK RHD Total: 251, of which 69 were Manual (27.5%)

ROW: 1814, of which 177 were Manual (9.8%)

    US Production: 02: 208, 03: 167, 04: 127

    05 235 (575M and Superamerica Combined, Estimate 78 575M, 157 Superamerica using 28% US SA production)

That's a great drive, furthest I've gone in mine is 150 miles but it was effortless and very comfortable. The power is incredible from 80-120
