Back to an F40 engine now apparently.

Given that the front row of cylinders are already in the cabin on an F40 v8 I could never work out where they put the extra 4 from the 550 v12 without using a transverse gearbox or lengthening the wheelbase.

    Out of interest.

If a road legal, but track ready Ferrari V12 (575/612/599/FF) engine in a correct shape F40LM carbon kevlar bodied, original Ferrari semi monocoque chassis.which has always had the correct F40 wheelbase, which is fitted with an integrated FIA spec full rollcage and all Ferrari running gear plus 6 speed manual transmission became available in limited numbers (3 or 4 per year max) would there be a market for it?

Quality/engineering wise, on par or probably better than a genuine F40, and can be LHD or RHD with an original Ferrari title/registration, VIN and tags.

I am guessing yes, however it would need to be priced in the region of 15 to 20% min of the current asking price of a usable UK based F40 to be financially viable.

Potentially starting to be available from late 2018 (most of the hard work on example one now complete).

If such a a car genuinely peeks anyones interest as a potential future purchase then please drop me a message :)

So your no type planing on destroying actual f40's? Building chassis to the same dimensions right?

No one is going to chop up an F40 to then resell it for 20% of the value. Even the burned out wrecks are selling for more than that just for the ID.

I am using a donor 355 chassis as the basis, and was thinking out loud as to whether anyone else would want their own 355 converted, much the same way as Singer operate with the 911s. Its not an advert as there is nothing available to buy, just wondering whether anyone else was as daft as me :)

Just making sure I understand what you were suggesting lol. Build one and then see if people want one. If it works out perfect then there will probably be buyers.

I think more people would be interested if you kept the body style of the donor chassis like Singer rather than changing it to something it's not (F40). If you're basing it on the 355, then doing a carbon body on a stretched wheelbase with V12 would be better imo. It would basically look like that Ferrari M3 prototype, which I always liked.

I am building what I wanted own, its not a commercial venture, however if anyone else wanted something similar then I would consider doing more, and I already have a spare 355 chassis to convert.

The F40 and 355 share the same wheelbase, no need to stretch it ,as the transverse gearbox of the 355 allows the V12 575 engine to sit in the space occupied by the 355 V8 and its fuel tank, so the first two cylinders of the v12 in the 355 chassis are in exactly the same place as the first two cylinders of the v8 in the F40 :)

I have no idea how Simpsons squeezed a v12 into that F40 though without a transverse box.

So question is why use a v12? Twin turbo'd 355 motor would be a better choice imo.

I simply wanted a v12 Ferrari that also looked like an F40LM. Had plenty of turbo cars in the past. The Ferrari flagship was always v12 powered.

The 355 engine gets its power at high revs, turbo charging such an engine is not a good idea as a result.

Had the F50 been an evolution of the F40 looks wise it would be my perfect car combination, well apart from its price!
