Link to the post. #4153GT ex. Glaesel (Glaesal?)/Gordinier....... It will be interesting to see who bought it. I do wonder about the $80 mm considering #3387GT struggled to sell at around the $50 mm mark but hey ho shall we crowd fund a purchase.

I suspect psephologists amongst others might dispute both that Chicago is East Coast and the assumption that the buyer has to be 'EC or WC' !!

Well I guess I am out of that market.

I thought when they cracked $40 million it was well passed insane. If true this is another dimension.

    Wow!

4153GT was the outright winner of the 1964 Tour de France. The sale, I guess, would have included 2 engines, the original and the engine from 250 GT SWB Comp 2445GT converted to GTO spec with dry sump and 6 carbs, that is in the car, which is the one that was used in winning the 1964 Tour de France.

That it has 2 engines must add quite a few million to its value.

If it is David McNeil, it is Weather Tech, the car accessories firm based in Bollingbrook, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. He started from nothing and has built a very successful company.

What else are you going to do with your money? He can use it with his company for advertising. His net worth is over $400 million

David MacNeil last Saturday at Villa d’Este personally confirmed to me his purchase of 4153 GT. Deal was done 23rd April 2018. Below 70 M $ and not 80 M.

Price is NOT insane, not at all. After all it is the TDF winner, one of the top 3 or 4 GTO‘s on the planet. Picassos sell for $ 140 M and up and you can‘t even drive them. I bet we will see a $ 100 M GTO sale in the next five years.

I still remember seeing his advertisements in Road and Track during the big recession. It did and still does give me a lot of respect for his accomplishments. I didnt know much about his company at the time but reading that he was bringing back manufacturing to the US was very bold and honorable. I am glad it is paying off for him as he seems to be one of those entrepreneurs who walk the walk. And of course, the quality of the collection he is building is impeccable.
