I love hanging **** on PP’s 308 being injected when he bangs on QV’s/328 being boring but I actually understand what he means. His injected car has all the virtues of a carby car (induction noise and throttle response) and none of the downsides of a QV/328 car. When CJ ran a self service mechanic workshop (and charged for the privilege), I would pop into the workshop after my night shift and do some work on my car. One day, I was removing the plenum so I could repaint it and PP came by. He said “Rennie, your worthless rusty UK import 308 looks absolutely gorgeous but its BORING and **** compared to a carby car”. I couldn’t comprehend because the QV is my favourite looking 308 and performance wise, very similar to a carby car anyway. PP pointed to the large single butterfly valve in the injected car and said look at the size of it…..its almost as huge as Horse (oh, and PP flashed a knowing wink my way). It can never compare to a carby car for throttle response because a carby car has much smaller butterfly valves.
I'd still buy a blue sera/chiaro over tan 308 GTB QV because its looks so good (as per QV factory brochure). I'm an idiot anyway.
I think if you went to a 328 GTS after owning the 360, you might be disappointed (if you didn't have the right mind set). A 360 is a great car. I really understand your sentiments.
Mostly right, multiple throttle bodies are better than a single one at all but wide open throttle. Carby cars have better throttle response because they dump fuel into the inlet tract the instant you touch the pedal. 80% of this goes out the exhaust as black smoke but what does get burnt properly creates the instant response. Injected cars meter the fuel much more accurately, but not in a way that precisely matches the movement of your foot, hence the slightly disconnected feeling. In the real world most carby Ferraris are poorly setup and aren't nice to drive - flat spots are very common, particularly at the transition to main jets. It takes a lot of time and effort to get the jetting and synchronisation right and few mechanics will spend the time, or owners pay for it.
Most of this goes out the exhaust as black smoke but what does get burnt properly creates the instant response. Happy now, Mr Post-Nazi?
Look like carbies.....sound like carbies....go like carbies.....no spluttering. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hmmmmmmmm No, I think I’ll just buy a faster car. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
And they are all of the reasons I swapped my GT4 for the 328..I spent a boatload of money on it,rebuilding the engine, carbys, went to electronic ignition and after every drive I still smelled like a Kuwati oil field..plus it drank so much fuel..here's a comparison.. Sydney-Canberra approx.300km I went through a full tank of fuel in the GT4,, in the 328 I went there and back and still had just under 1/4 tank left..yes I did love the induction noise coming from the right hand side but my 328 has a Mille Miglia exhaust and it makes plenty nice sound as well,,especially through tunnels.. I've been asked if I ever intend on 'upgrading' to a 360-430 but to be honest I have driven both and for me they are just to fast,,to much unusable street power..
