    Hi all,

Today I went to pick up my 308 from Dino Motors in San Mateo (it was getting a major done) and to my surprise, there was another beautiful 412 5 speed in Nero Met. with California plates! (I too own a 412 5 speed)

I was so excited that I forgot to get the VIN - Doh! :( I was told it was getting a complete engine rebuild.

Is it one of you here who owns it? LMK - we should get together... if anyone else here is in the Bay Area (or passing by) LMK as well - it would be fun to get together with y’all.

    Cheers,

    Ruben

What color is the interior? If it is light gray, it might be 65949, which was acquired in 2010 by an FChatter in the Bay Area.

Yep, light gray... must be the car. I’ll call the shop and ask the SN

It would be good to know the cost from a reliable garage for a rebuild.

Well, my data point is 20 years old so simply adjust for inflation!

In 1998 one of the 400i 5 speeds that I looked at and drove was at Intrepid Motors (Bert Skidmore) in Reno NV. Intrepid is a reputable shop with a lot of high dollar Ferrari clients. Tony Wang uses them for his West Coast vintage racing Ferraris, for example.

Intrepid had done a complete engine rebuild, including a used 412 short block (that was about $6K) and the total receipts, including the short block, IIRC were about $26K, In 1998 dollars.

    YMMV!
