From factory my car was equipped with standard seats with simple electric (no memory).
When i bought the car i wanted the seller ( a major Ferrari dealer) to swap to the 458 carbon seats.
As fas as i know they just did a mechanical swap.

When i came home i found out that the steering column is not working anymore. Obviously the power to the column is coming from under the seat where there are some loose cable connections now.

Another dealer ( not driving distance from me) told me that Ferrari has to make a new SW for the car, and that i need a new wire harness / connection under the seat??
Anyone know about this and how to connect the power to the steering column?

The racing seats do not have any switches, motors, or sensors installed. When you buy the racing seats, the mirrors and steering column no longer work electrically. You have to do it all manually.

Those loose cables go no where. Its exactly the same if you ordered the car with the racing seats from the factory.

Must be a UK thing! Not available in the US.

He's talking about the moving the column automatically when you move the seats. In the US, they don't do that. You have to move the steering column manually and the mirrors. In the full electric seats, it does this just by moving the seats.

    Does yours do that?

El steering column / mirrors and carbon seats must be an EU option then.
I was at my local dealer today. They found out that when the German dealer change the seats from el seats (no memory) to my new carbon seats they also took out the ecu `s under the factory seats. Those are needed also when carbon seats are installed to be able to electrically adjust the steering column.
    My el mirrors work.
New appointment to install ECU`s then hopefully all work again.

Those that have swapped out their standard electric seats for the carbon race seats have you noticed if you sit lower in the race seats compared to standard?

I believe that race seats when order from the factory are lower..

    Thanks

My understanding is that the dealer can adjust the seat height.

About 2-3 cm lower than standard seats when race seats in lowerst position.
Also you can adjust them more from the steering wheel if you have long legs and need space.

I have heard any where up to 24 lbs per seat vs the electric seats. Total of just under 50lbs total.

I'm a little hesitant to post this knowing The Mayor's stellar reputation, but I have the racing seats and electronic steering wheel adjustment and mirrors.

As others have said, you can get the electric adjustable steering column and mirrors with the race seats. As the Mayor said, the OP made it sound as though when the seats were adjusted, the steering column and mirrors held a memory function.

Brad - I think the carbon race seats are around $15k from the factory if ordered separately. Don't know this for sure.

    What is wrong now .....
You should get a wiringloom to go with the new seats; then the dealer should add the seats to the ECU.
Not a big deal; they should have done that with implementing your expensive seats. Exactly as @458trofeo did when he installed Challenge seats in his lightweight 458 :D

I had electric seats on mine and electric steering column and mirrors, then I upgraded to fully electric with memory and lumbar supports - as soon as I pressed the memory button 1, the seat went all the way down and back and steering out and up (entry position) after that the steering column never worked any more. Anybody experienced this or found a fix - mine is a Euro 458 2010 LHD

Don't quote me on it, but I believe it's in the 50-60 kg range. Those electric seats are ridiculously heavy.
