Sickening. It's LHD, so not originally for the Japanese market.

It could be. A lot of cars in Japan are sold in LHD, especially higher-end European cars. It's seen as a status symbol for some reason. My J-spec 456 is LHD too.

Did not know that, thanks. I lived in Japan, and never saw an LHD car while I was there.

Yup, most of the exotics sold in Japan, especially Ferraris, are LHD. Seems to be some sort of status symbol.

Same goes with Mercedes S class and BMW 700 series, almost all of them are LHD, full packed and sold cheaply with low mileage.

    Hi,

So is my Japanese 456 GT, I think all Japanese sold Ferraris I have ever seen have been LHD.

And the Lamborghinis and Aston Martins I have seen coming back from Japan have also all been LHD, it may be both the exotic factor in Japan or thinking that there will be a better market for the car when the time comes to sell it. Of course that would not apply to all Ferraris as RHD cars would have a good market in Australia and NZ etc. Perhaps someone from Japan could explain a bit more on the logic? I would have some Japanese things I have found in my car (a vIsit card, some coins and a couple of service labels) that might also need help in identifying / translating.

    Cheers!

Also worth noting that many Japanese car parks have ticket dispensers for both LHD and RHD cars.

Looking at the pics again, its an oddly compelling sculpture.
The beauty of decay, like a Sicilian Palazio.

Its also testament to Japan's wonderful lack of (un-organised) crime. In any other country that car would have been stolen or vandalized years ago.

Not just that, the toll booths too. I messed that up on my first time driving in Japan and it saved me. In a RHD car, went to the left side, and had to have my passenger get the ticket.

I was in Japan in the early 70's. Never saw any of that. It was totally RHD oriented. Lot's of first generation Fairlady Z's everywhere. :)

What a waste... I'd think someone could use that front hood.

As Terry has posted it is a status symbol to have LHD on exotics/prestige. I first went there in 1990 and my contact wanted to lend me his virtually new lhd Jaguar XJS. A couple of years ago I was looking at Ferraris there and several were lhd, as were Porsche, Rolls, etc. The 456 I bought there was lhd.

I'm not sure that car is truly abandoned. Seems to me the condition of the interior would be worse if it had just been left to die.I think the owner simply can't afford a needed repair so it sits.
