So my dealer called me up and told me that there will not be a 2019 Gt3 made. Wonder what that's going to mean for GT3 owners value, he also said most likely no more manuals in future for Porsche..

it is possible that FIA may be revising the various group GT rules... no point in marketing a car to a racing class that that is being revised check in with the FIA

As I understand it, the first part is correct-all 991.2 GT3's will be 2018 MY, but production will go from Aug/Sept 17 through Dec 18 (so an abnormally long MY production run). This is so 2019 MY will be 991.2 GT3/2 RS' and the 992.1, which is supposedly launching at Geneva in March.

The second part is incorrect, Porsche has already said they will keep making manuals as long as enthusiasts demand them.

Both statements together sound like your dealer is giving you the full court press to order a car ;)

I guess Production will only be 2018 for the 991/2 GT 3 due to the strict Emission laws in Europe from 2019 or mid 2018 on. For the newer 2019 models there needs to be an additional Filter to meet the regulations in the european union.

The road legal GT3 will always be around regardless of a racing series. If anything, Porsche will continue to add more variants of the 911 and not cut back on them. There will probably be three new trim levels of the 911 by the time you finish reading this sentence.

I’ve heard this from several places. Wonder if it’s acually true that the GT3 .2 will only be 2018. I have an allocation coming in September but I just got an RS a few months ago. Was going to keep th me arS and skip the .2 but now- if it is truly limited- no way. Gonna get the .2 fornsure.

It does seem odd that its only a 1 year run for the .2

Looking at Porsches history I wonder if we'll see the next GT car in 2021?

In the transition from 996 to 997, no GT cars sold 2005, 2006
In the transition from 997 to 991, no GT cars sold 2012, 2013

It looks like the 991 model ends in 2018.
The 992 begins in 2019, 2020, then in 2021 we see the next GT cars?

The 992 is coming out in 2019. I guess it makes sense that they would stop gt3 in 2018 as it’s the older platform. How can they keep and older 991 platform and he newer 992 platform Running at the same time? Unless it’s different factories. Don’t know- not an expert in Porsche.

it's actually been fairly normal for Porsche to have two "types" of 911 produced at the same time, at least going back to the 964/993 switch.

usually the outgoing chassis is being produced in the limited edition variants (GT2/3, turbo S, etc) while the new model launches as the base Carrera/Carrera S.

Just traded in my .2 pdk for .2 PTS manual and my dealer was telling me same thing as OP mentioned. No more 991 after 2018, 992s will be produced instead

So then wouldn’t the limited model be the gt3.2 rs? Regular gt3.2 is done?

My dealer also confirmed that GT2RS and 991.2 GT3 will all be MY2018. I now have May production for GT3 touring and September production for GT2RS.

I guess this means the GT3 Touring will only have a 2018 run cycle as well. Pity, as I feel its the sleeper in the range.....Full GT3 spec, sans the wing. Essentially a bargain 911 R, if you want to call it that.

I have a touring coming in septemberish.....one thing about porshce- if you missed the allocation on one, just blink 3 times, a new "better" version is just around the corner. The hype around these cars is unreal- I have a a GT3 RS and a Touring incoming- both great cars but cant say one is drastically different than the former.

Unless something changed between now and when this article was published in mid-Feb, it looks like the 992 GT3's will be NA, according to Frank Walliser.

    Thank goodness too.

Porsche is a master when it comes to this marketing crap. Last NA engine...then real last NA...then no more manual...then last manual...then unlimited manual....then maybe no more run....then just squeezed out a few more .1 GT3 at the end suddenly. Think how pissed off those 911R owners were when they found out about the 991.2 GT3 with manual... then the frigging touring package that looks extremely similar to 911R without the wing.

This is exactly why I flipped the .2 GT3 right after I find that it is not as good as the 458. You feel the width and the size of the car. You just cannot have fun with it with manual on street legally at all. So I sold it at 13 miles.

Don't want to play this marketing game with Porsche anymore. Don't care about if I get black listed anymore....Plus in my experiences owning quite a number of GT cars with Porsche, loyalty to the brand does not matter at all, either to the dealer or the manufacturer.

Do miss the Gt4 though. Had it over 10K miles.

    So jaded I am.

    Definitely jaded.

I doubt there is a single original 911R owner that is either pissed or gives a crap about the GT3.
Yes, someone who paid way over in the secondary market may be feeling the sting of it, but so what, everyone knows the rules of flipping/investing in cars.

I have numerous Ferrari's including 458 and Speciale...and the GT3 is amazing in its own right. It drives differentany, it sounds different, and I love it for what it is.
Your statement about can't have fun with the GT3 manual legally on the streets, while you can with the 458, is so nonsensical I'm not sure how even to address that.

Yes, I am definitely jaded and I know a couple who pay tons over for 911R feel the way I described. I was offered a 911R and passed. So glad that I passed. The market price for 911R does change significantly since the GT3 manual is available.

Is your GT3 manual or PDK?

Maybe it is nonsensical to you about how I compared the two, but that is how I felt. In fact, I think GT3 is really better in PDK (I had owned two, one in PDK in prior model, and one in manual) in comparison. I felt that the rev in GT3 manual is not as fast as the 458 (let alone Cali T HS), thus I could not feel the power fast enough before I hit illegal limit on the street.

Glad you like your GT3. Keep it. As long as it brings your smile. I think it is the totality of my experience with Porsche tainted my experiences with their cars...
