    That's the way to go.
No chains for something as important as steak. :)

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of going to a national chain restaurant?

I say go to a locally owned place every time.

Yelp and Open Table are wonderful.

Yep to all of this (including Bern's and Charley's). I'd take Del Frisco's over Ruth's Chris.

Mike. Last week I met a client for a drink and he suggested Flemings at Crabtree. This was a Tuesday at 7:00 (no hurricane issues.) You could have fired a shotgun through the place without hitting a patron. When we left at 7:45 there was a total of 12 people in the dining room; four at the bar. Must be a reason.

    Ruths and Flemings are ok.

If you are ever in South Florida try Red, Miami Beach.

Always prefer local, but if it's a chain I think Morton's > Ruths. The steaks are comparable, but the bisque and creamed spinach are better at Morton's.

Yeah, and you can always tell a seasoned Morton's customer based on his bread cutting skills! :D

But between just those two I'd opt for Ruth's Chris but I'd much rather have steak somewhere else, like Fogo de Chao.

Both are marginal in my opinion. Expense account places.

I'd avoid Ruth's Chris at all costs. Terrible steak and highly overpriced. Its the only steakhouse we've literally just walked out of. There is 100x better options in any big city.

Between those two, Ruth's Chris, but there's better.

The sweet potato casserole & creme brûlée at RC are really the highlights.

Burke's is the best steak I've had that wasn't true waygu beef. Their cake in a can (must be ordered ahead of time) is a GREAT dessert too.

From the set of chain steakhouses, I prefer Capital Grille to all of the others mentioned in this thread.

Roots in Summit NJ blows Ruth Chris away!
Or you can go to Sparks in NYC or you may get blown away!

I'm a big fan of Del Frisco's. Been to the locations in Dallas, Charlotte, New York and Philadelphia. Never disappointed.

I was about to say Bern's as well.

To the OP, the two big names you ask are the same to me. They're good, but not great. I don't go out of my way to eat at either, but will not oppose if friends/family insist. I don't consider it a special occasion to go there unlike Bern's.

Ruth Chris for Ribeyes, but they are inconsistent location to location

Flemings for Filets, and seem to be very consistent between locations for me...

Bern's is good, but not their biggest fan. I much prefer Charley's.

Del Frisco is good too, but not their biggest fan either.
